Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 30, 2013 Super User Posted March 30, 2013 My little brother gave me this lure when I first started out. I'm not sure where he got it but I'm pretty sure its an older lure. The only writing on it says Brooks Reefer. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Like maybe when it was made and the exact make and model. I haven't been able to find much info about the company. I've fished it a couple times. Its a shallow diver and I really like the action on it. If its an antique or something I may stop fishing it but I don't have the box and I wouldn't think that it would be worth anything really without it. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 30, 2013 Super User Posted March 30, 2013 Looks like a Lazy Ike. I believe a google search is needed Tuckahoe. Maybe a history on the lazy Ike, it may reveal a knock off or maybe that was part of a series? Quote
NBR Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 It does look like a lazy Ike but the part near the front hook makes it look like a lure made from plastic and as best as I can recall Lazy Ikes were wood baits. Lazy Ikes, Flat Fish and another I can't be sure of the name but Reefer rings a bell had similar shapes and actions. All three caught many fish and were probably used more by walleye fishermen than bass fishermen. All three were effective baits probably trolled more than cast. 1 Quote

Super User Marty Posted March 30, 2013 Super User Posted March 30, 2013 Very interesting. This page on the Brooks Reefer shows it as a jointed lure. http://www.fishwithjd.com/2012/03/25/vintage-lure-the-brooks-reefer/ Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 31, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 31, 2013 Very interesting. This page on the Brooks Reefer shows it as a jointed lure. http://www.fishwithjd.com/2012/03/25/vintage-lure-the-brooks-reefer/ I saw that page. I wonder if mine was always the way it is now or if it was once a jointed bait that someone lost/replaced the jointed part. Either way like I said, the action is awesome. The best way I can describe it is if you've ever fished an Eeliminator really slow, picture that action but at crankbait speed. I guess Ill just keep looking. Thanks for the replies everyone. Quote
