Line For Spinnerbaits And Lipless Cranks

i'm gettiing a new reel  for my new graphite and fiberglass mh rods.  I'm considering a braid because i'm gonna be ripping it through weeds and also in light cover.  I am wodering what test i should use... 20 lb?  Should a use leader, if so, mono or flouro and what test.

On a moving bait you could go straight braid unless the water is really clear then you might want to use a leader. .

I generally use a mono or copolymer line for fishing spinnerbaits and trap style baits, 17 or 20.  I think that the new Trilene XL Armor coated is a great spinnerbait/rattle trap/ square bill line.  I understand that I could use braid for all these applications but I just haven't seen the need to switch yet.

For spinnerbaits, my line of choice is Sufix Siege in 17# and for my lipless cranks, I'm using 14# Siege.

I use 10# Yozuri hybrid on a baitcaster for both types of lures with absolutely no issues going through vegetation.

you should check out that sunline SX1 braid.  I know its a finesse line, but if you are gonna be in light cover and aren't going to be fishing topwaters, a sinking braid would be awesome

Pline cxx its stupid strong, but is kinda wirey so put some line and lure conditioner on it and u will be fine.

I prefer YZ Hybrid, 12# for spinnerbaits and 10# for crankbaits. With a MH-power rod, you should have no difficulty ripping lures through the grass with this line.

Power Pro braid is the way to go. It casts smooth and if you're using a reaction bait you want longer casts. Make sure that you get heavy enough line for the cover you are fishing as well. The line diameter on braid is much smaller so you could easily use 40lb. Just a suggestion.

I use 15lb fluoro for spinnerbaits and 10lb-12lb fluoro for lipless cranks

power pro super slick in 50 lb test at least.you need the extra diameter to keep the bait up in the water column.always pick your brid by what the mono diameter should be.you will feel bites you never knew you had with mono.a bass can engulf a spinnerbait without you feelig it.with braid you will feel it all.

I also use 40 lb braid. It works better for ripping spinnerbaits and lipless crank through my grassy waters.

I fish spinnerbaits on 20,30, and 50lb braid. Small ones like 3/16-1/4 oz. on 20lb with a 7' Med. power, fast action casting rod, 3/8's  and up on 30lb with a 7' MH/fast casting rod, I'll switch to the 50 in shallow, dirty water, with heavy cover to keep the bait "up". I use a fluorocarbon leader with spinnerbaits often, #1 reason, is it's more resistant to bite offs form pike than with straight braid, #2 abrasion resistance in cover, and #3 straight braid sometimes will tangle around the blades when I am letting a SB helicopter down.

 

 For lipless cranks, most of the time it's a 1/2 oz. bait, 20lb braid with a 12, or 15lb fluoro leader, on the same M/F casting rod as the smaller spinnerbaits. If the grass is quite thick I'll bump it up to 30lb braid with 15-17lb leader, on the same MH/F set up as the bigger spinnerbaits. I use the leaders with them for the same reasons as I do with SB's, even more so for reason #3 as stated above. A falling lipless baits treble hooks grab and fouls on braid often enough that a leader is a must for me.

i dont use braid as not taking the chance on having to replace eyes on my rods...i have tried numerous lines through the years and the one i have used the last 15 is Mccoy fishing line for everything and in those years have not had it break one time...

I've been using braid for years.  No issues with the guides.

Using 40lb braid now, for a while used 17lb stiff mono. The comparison is night and day, with no stretch the braid pops the baits out of the grass so much better.

I use 12# Yo Zuri, on both my spinnerbait and my cranking set up. I will throw spinners on braid though, in which case its 50# Power Pro, but thats not my first choice.
