paul. Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 check this out. and trust me, it works - well. 1. tie on a 2/0 - 4/0 ewg hook depending on the size bait you are using. start the hook in the nose and back out tx style. 2. insert a dipsey swivel sinker in the butt end of the tube - ring first. 3. when you come back through the bait to complete the rig, go through the plastic first, then the ring inside the tube (to hold the sinker in place). 4. finally, complete the rig by coming back through the bait and skin hooking. applications and techniques are limited only by your imagination. works on top walk-the-dog style. works shallow like a fluke. works deep like a jig. falls horizontal or even backwards with a heavier weight. great tentacle flare. slower fall than traditional texas rig with bullet sinker in front. amazing hookup percentage. preserves bait life with a lot less frequent nose tears - even with braid. weight along with a large portion of the hook is totally hidden. also has applications with other hollow body baits like paca craws. probably the most snag free and weedless rig i've ever used. since it's back-weighted, it casts easily and far. i have been flat out puttin' 'em in the boat with this rig. hope it works as well for y'all. 3 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 29, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 29, 2013 Oh man...you just revealed my secret! Only I use a dropshot weight. Quote
Sodus Bay Scooter Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Thanks! This looks interesting. I love trying new and different things. I am gonna try this out for sure. Quote
Blues19 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I have actually thought about trying something similar to this, but putting the weight on the offset shank near the top. Gonna try this for sure! Quote
paul. Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 I have actually thought about trying something similar to this, but putting the weight on the offset shank near the top. Gonna try this for sure! that works too, but often interferes with hookups since the weight is riding in the hook gap. Quote
Blues19 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 that works too, but often interferes with hookups since the weight is riding in the hook gap. That is actually the reason i was concerned about trying it. Quote

Psshh, NIcK PLEasE.... The hook is the first thing coming out of that bass's mouth. The ring on the weight is so tiny it will never in a million years get in the way. I would be more worried about the sinker on a T-Rig smacking the bass's lip causing it to spit the bait before the hook (which doesn't noticeable happen). Same concept as the Okeechobee rig! Quote
Quillback Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Thanks for the tip, I've been doing well with tubes lately, but I've been t-rigging them, this looks to be a lot more snag free, and gives them a different look. I've also been thinking about trying the tube rigged jika style. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 Have used this weighting method for years. Also use the method that sets the weight on the hook all the way at the nose when more of a vertical drop is wanted. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 Ike shows this in his finesse DVD. Also on YouTube. Great way to go weedless with a tube. BPS also sell weights specific to this technique which I believe are better. Smaller profile than the bell sinket. Quote
Arv Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Definitely trying this out this weekend. Thanks for the post! Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 I use HP Quick Clip weights for this. Longer and thinner, like some dropshot weights, with an angled loop. The weight can be rigged on either end of the tube. Quote
Flukeman Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I have some old Gitzit glider weights that I use a couple different ways in this manner. Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 Im gonna try it out. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted March 30, 2013 Super User Posted March 30, 2013 Awesome. I love this kind of thing. Thanks, Doc! Quote
ColdSVT Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 you sir are one slick nickle! def gonna try this! Quote
Doubled Over Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Used a similar rigging on a BBB Warmouth, when it falls it looks exactly like a dying shad or bluegill. I'll have to try it out with some tubes. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 31, 2013 Super User Posted March 31, 2013 I do this with the Yamamoto weights made for it. Quote
