KY Outdoorsman Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Hows it going guys, i had to share this one with everyone. So i went on my first trip of the season as i mentioned in another post. Didnt do as well as expected however the first of my 2013 season was reeled the previous evening at a pond go to regularly. The only problem is that the could have been my only trip for some weeks to come and maybe months. Basketball is my second love behind hunting/fishing. I played all through highschool and recently every sunday i played some pickup games at the local gym. We have some physical games to be older and out of shape, that all caught up with me though. I am a post player so i normally defend the paint on defense (unfortunately). A guy was bringing the ball down the lane, he veered to the left to attempt a tear drop layup, as he did i jumped to contest his shot. As i came back down, i twisted my back awkwardly. The pain hit me immediately, i couldnt stand up straight. I knew i screwed myself up bad. An hour passed, i still somehow had to get myself home. After doing some stretches, i eventually made it outside walking in a crouched postioned since i still couldnt stand up straight. I came to find out it was raining, actually it was a downpour and my car was parked at the end of the lot. I got soaked. My weekend went great!!! only not really. I eventually made it home, showered and went to bed. Ive just now as of wednesday around 4 pm began walking again. I have layed in the bed all week. I assumed it was a pulled muscle, i also had symptoms of a ruptured disk but i have made good progress since sunday night. I plan on going to the dr tomorrow to get an mri to make sure no e permanent damage is done. I do not fish from a boat alot, i mostly fish ponds and rivers which requires alot of walking so its untelling when i will be able to do that again. So thats how my first weekend of spring fishing has went. Im going to be out for a month or so. Happy Fishing!! Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Sucks man. I threw my back out skating like 12 years ago. I physically could not stand up strait for 2 days. I know a lot of people aren't crazy about them but I eventually went to a chiropractor. I don't remember exactly what the problem was but he took some x-rays, gave me a few quick adjustments, and I was good as new in about 5 minutes. Still a little sore for another day or 2 but the problem was solved. Whatever your problem turns out to be, get yourself right and get back out on that water asap. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Good Luck. Take it easy and get well. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 That was unfortunate, hope you have a good recovery over whatever it turns out to be and hope the doctor gives a healthier diagnosis Quote
RyneB Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 nothings worse than back pain. I was playing a high school game and did the same thing you did. After trying to fight through the pain, I eventually went to the doctor. I had a ruptured disc and it was brutal. I could barely put my hands over my head. Sleeping was nearly impossible. The good news is, when they did all the MRIs and such, they found out I have scoliosis. I still have back pain here and there, and have come to the conclusion that it will be like this forever. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 I hope the back continues to improve. Back injuries affect everything you do. This was a message to you from a higher power. You should have been fishing. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 Get better soon. Stick to fishing. Quote

Back when I was guiding I did something to my back slipn and sliding in the creeks. Never noticed it when it happened. The next morning first step out of bed I was flat on my face. Ive never had pain so intense, I actually cried. I crawled down the stairs, out to the car and went strait to the chiropractor. He worked his magic and I walked out. Iced it for three days before I could operate normally. Quote
