fl_bass Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Why was I afraid of the stuff I don't know, but I was. I took advantage of the Tuf-Line offer and I could not be more pleased. Felt the bites better got better hook ups. Since this is my first time with braid, are the other brands the same? Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 No. From my experience Cortland Master Braid and Tuf-Line are outstanding with Power Pro (the original) getting an honorable mention. Cabelas RipCord braid has been pretty good, but likes to bleed a little. Braids I have not liked at all have been Fireline and Stren Somic Braid (these braids just aren't managable and seem to wear easier). I have no opinion on the Sufix Braids, because I have never tried them. In my opinion you are now using on of the best braids out there (only with Cortlands Master Braid might be slightly better). Super User rockchalk06 Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 I just switched to PP slick and am loving it so far. No memory was a game changer for me. I hate memory with a passion Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Over the last few years I've only had braid from one company that didn't measure up to the others. 15# that I could break by snapping with my hands and did it several times. From a strength standpoint it didn't cut the mustard, but I did catch my largest bass of the year and several other good ones on it. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Some braids are noisier than others some fray more than others some bleed more than others some are more limp than others. A person will love brand A while the next person will hate it. Like most things need to try it to form your own opinion. I really like braid on my spinning reels handles so much better. Quote

Super User Felix77 Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Another vote for PowerPro although I am always up for trying new stuff. Heard mixed reviews of Seaguar's Kaizen Braid and Nanofil. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 I use Power Pro original and Spiderwire Stealth. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 The only braid I would never again use is Spyder wire! I have been very pleased with the Sufix 832 being very quiet, with Fireline Braid, and Power Pro, being as good on the strength, durable and manageability, I have went with the ghost, crystal, white the same color just named different by the manufacturers and then there is no color bleeding, any of them that are green brown yellow you name it have bled the colors. I would have all braid but have some reels that still have the original fireline on them and only 1 to 3 years on the usage, when they do get wore out, or it gets to limp and frayed on both ends, I will change to one of the braids. I usually got 2 years usage on a spool and then would turn it around on the reel and use the other end, I have found that even when it looks wore out and frayed, it is still stronger than the mono or Fluoro leaders I run off of it. I use up to the same weight leader material and find the braid (synthetic) to always be stronger and always have better knot strength than the line itself, why I use mono or fluoro, I control where it will break by the type knot I use in the leader, and never the knot joining the 2. They are all very good for transmitting what is going on to the other end, I have told others if you put braid on an ugly stick it is almost the same difference as switching to a cheap graphite rod and running mono on the graphite rod, buy a good quality graphite rod and put one of the braids I mentioned on it, and it is like being the telephone and being told what is going on on the other end of the line, mud sand gravel boulder wood it just tells you everything, when fish are winded I can feel them panting!!! It really does more to transmit sensitivity than anything else I have done to improve feel in the past 20 years. When you put it together with the newer rods and reels you really have the best of all worlds. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Sufix 832, Sufix Performance, Power Pro. All 3 are great products. Quote
BrettD Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I've tried power pro, power pro slick 8 and diawa samurai braid. The Diawa samurai braid is my favorite followed by slick 8 then normal power pro. Quote
ColdSVT Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 in the mid 90s i switched to gorilla braid from mono. holy crap what a difference!!! there was a slight learning curve with knots and when to set the hook but other than that i had no issues. I loved the sensiticity and lack of stetch from the moment i first tried it. i have since been through fireline, spiderwire, suffix, cortland, and some others i forget. my favorite was and still is Power Pro original. that being said you will find seaguar flouro in abrazx, invisx, and red label on all my baitcasters except one. my heavy jig rod has Power Pro on it as do all of my spinning rigs save my trout rod lol Quote
Doubled Over Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Heard mixed reviews of Seaguar's Kaizen Braid and Nanofil. On the Nanofil note, I have mixed feelings about it. The pro's being that it casts great and has excellent sensitivity. However, the line does have some memory (even when I treated it with KVD Line and Lure), not much abrasion resistance, and if you aren't extra careful with your knots it slips easily. I am eager to try the Kaizen. I like Power Pro but recently placed an order for some Tuf-Line so we will see. Quote
