I live on a small (20 acre) lake, and have a 10' V bottom aluminum Starcraft row boat.  I would like to purchase a new fish finder, but not sure if permanent installation makes sense. (I keep boat on land, and launch each time I go out fishing) Can I purchase any fish finder and use it without a "permanent type" installation, or do I have to stick with looking at portable fish finders only?  Thanks in advance for anyones help!

You can make any graph portable. Use a small cooler, put the batteries inside, mount the graph on the lid, and mount the transducer to a piece of wood, and c-clamp that wood to the transom.
