hey everyone, i'm getting ready to add an other rod to my arsenal just dont know what to get. this rod will be used for t-rigged worms and some jigs. i know i want a rod around 7'3 to get nice long cast and maybe some pitching. i already have a 7'6 MH mojo i use for flipping and pitching, but i cant decided what would be better between a heavy or MH rod

Two things to consider before your question can be answered. Lure &Weight -whats the average or range of weights you want to throw with it? And how thick or sparse is the cover that you will be fishing?

If your going to use it for 1/2 oz or better jigs or 3/8 oz with a worm I would get a heavy. Im assuming you fish in the same heavy cover I do because your in FL.

Then there's the confusion over one company's MH and how it relates to another company's.  IE your MH Mojo is just about equal to a Carrot Stick, or Phenix Heavy.  This is across the board for the most part.  Tell us what rods you are looking at and we can help from there.

I'd go by what line are you going to use and what weight lures and more importantly, where are you going to throw the baits at? For example I'll use a 7' MH - F for  casting a 1/2oz  jig around moderate cover with 15lb mono but if I'm pitching a 1/2oz jig into nasty brush I'll use 50lb braid with a heavy power rod. The stouter rod makes for better hooksets where your line may be covered in weeds or when you are using really stout hooks.

thanks for all the responses guys! the rods i am looking at are either a powell 734 or a *** black rod 7'3 heavy. as the lures go they will all be over 1/2 once, and the cover is typical Florida cover, and depending on the lake i will be either throwing heavy fluorocarbon (17) or braid from 30-50 .

A 4 power powell should be about right I have a 764 endurance I use for 10 worms with either a 3/8 or 1/2 oz weight.

i was dead set on the powell, then i heard about the ***, it has got some great reviews and it looks o so sweet!

Eather rod will be perfect for you, both are very nice, just depends how much you wanna spend!

Either one should be fine. I would lean towards the Powell just because I like to stick with what I know works. Although, there have been a lot of good things coming about about 13

From my own perspective heavy rods are for heavy lures and heavy fish.  Heavy rods and 50# braid is unappealing to me for bass fishing.  My beefiest combo is a med 8/17 spinning rod 7' with a bass sized reel and 12# Supercast.  Not a doubt in my mind that I can't land a 10# bass out of Florida slop with this, I've done it with 10# PP on the same outfit.

Rod power is largely a matter of personal preference. I tend to lean towards more more powerful rods. Thankfully, there are plenty of online flea markets where you can sell rods for a fair price if they don't meet your expectations.

i think im going to go with the MH rod, just haven't decided what rod yet, i'll probably go to the tackle shop and see what rod balences best with my lews tp, thanks for the help guys!
