TNBassin' Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Long story short, I've had issues with my S, my STX, and now my brand new 2 day old SX. Not sure what's causing it, but the spool will not re engage every time the handle is turned. I know, return it. Well I did yesterday, and now this new one is doing the same exact thing. The drag is tight enough, the spool is snugly and surely seated in the pinion gear slot, the spool tension is set right...I dunno what to do other than to try and return it...again. All 3 of my Revos have had 3 different issues although the S issue was more my doing, and a swap out at BPS solved 2 of them, but now I got another dud SX. Anyone know what could be causing this? I don't wanna go into BPS and have them look at me like I'm crazy if I don't have to, but I'm getting a little ticked off at the "quality" Abu is shoveling out. Quote
Quillback Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I have a Gen 3 STX, and I've never had that problem, but I've read forum posts where it has happened to other people. I'd get rid of it, either demand a refund or ship it back to Revo and demand they replace it, not "fix" it. Quote
TNBassin' Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 A google search of my issue has popped up quite a few people having this issue, and it's only with the SX. I guess I will go back to BPS tomorrow and exchange it again. If I get a dud this time, I'm getting a refund and saying to he!! with it. Quote

If you get another dud from the same store I would start looking at a different brand maybe move upto the Shimano/Diawa brands That many duds from the same store they are likely placing the duds back into the inventory. Super User J Francho Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 Do a quick check of the crank side cover screws, and make sure they're fairly snug tight. There two on the outside, and one behind the spool. You'll have to loosen the knurled thumscrew on the crank side completely, and rotate the palm side plate up. It'll pop off, and the spool will slide out. You'll immediately see the last screw behind that. If those are loose, that can affect the clutch mechanism, since those three (and one other inside the reel) hold the whole thing together. Quote
Dyna7329 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I took my two brand new Gen 3 SXs out yesterday for the first time. One performed flawlessly, while the other had the previously mentioned problem. I'm sending it directly to Abu with hopes of receiving a brand new one. Clearly, something went wrong with Gen3 SX production as this is, unfortunately, a fairly common issue. How did you resolve the issue, TNBassin'? Quote
21farms Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 from your description, i had the exact same issue with one of my 3G STXs. i sent my almost new one back to ABU and they returned it to me within a week. i put a little silver dot on the bottom of the reel foot so i knew i got the exact same reel back. the included work order said they adjusted the clutch plate. IMHO, having them apply a fix to your reel is MUCH BETTER than them sending you a new reel since you can rest assured the non-engaging clutch problem has already has been addressed; if you got a brand new one, it might have the exact same problem. besides, when i got mine back, it looked like they cleaned out the excess lube that was there from the factory and relubed it correctly. good luck. Solution TNBassin' Posted April 20, 2013 Author Solution Posted April 20, 2013 I returned mine and got another, but I've yet to fish with it so far. Just messing around the yard though, the issue hasn't come up once and I hope it doesn't. If it pops up again, it goes back and I go Lew's. Quote

No worry, I've down something similar with a certain rod and the guys in te store know it too well where it doesn't look strange. Some models have their known problems. Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 my g3 stx did the same thing to my the other day Quote
TNBassin' Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Abu dropped the ball on these. No doubt. My replacements are flawless though so the 2nd time is the charm it seems. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 My guess is that a good cleaning and reassembly that this issue would go away. I tear every new reel I buy apart before I ever fish it. My buddy said the new BPS Bionic had this issue and DO NOT BUY ONE. I bought one anyhow and I am glad I did. Of course, he knows nothing about the inside of his reels. Quote

Trailer Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I had a thread on here about my Gen 3 Revo S. I am returning it to BPS. Hope the replacement is better. Quote
down4ttown Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I bought two STX's and one Winch Gen 3 and they are awesome. Put them on the same level or slightly behind my shimano's and a little behind my Team Lew's. Pretty good to me thus far. VERY easy to dial in. Quote
