sunkist Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 So a guy posts something for sale on a forum. We make a deal and I say I will paypal that night. When I go online to send the money I have a pm from the seller saying "the item is sold, thanks". I reply stating we had a deal, whats up. He replys a buddy said he would buy the item, but then says the buddy backed out after he pm'd me it was sold so if I still want the item it is mine. If I had a deal with someone I would not sell to anyone else unless the buyer told me he was backing out or didn't send money by the time specified. What would you do in this situation? Go ahead and make the purchase or move on? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 Do whatever you want. No reason to get upset. You're dealing with the general public and not a retailer. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 if it is a good price and what you want then buy it. Crap happens and it's not like you paid first and then he sold it.... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 It's the seller's discretion as to whom he sells to. It's a Flea Market, not a real estate transaction. We maintain a good sellers list pinned in the FM board. You can refer to that if you are interested in a seller's reputation. 1 Quote

sunkist Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 It wasn't a transaction from this website , but the good sellers list is a great idea. Quote
Trailer Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 A deal's a deal. I'd buy it if I wanted it but would probably skip past his name next time he had something for sale. I deal with the public everyday. If I promise something, I have to do it. Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 Agree with alot of folks.. if it is a good deal, then go for it. I wouldnt hold a beef, but i would be wary the next time that the seller is selling something that you are interested in. Pride can sometimes mask it self as principle and get in the way of good things. Good luck. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 The guy pulled a turdhead move on you, but it is his item and he can sell it to whomever he wants. 1 Quote
nick76 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I agree with most that has been posted here. If it was a great deal and one that could not be passed up then I might jump. Yet one has to wonder why a buddy who was given the same deal on that item passed it up? Maybe the deal is not as sweet as it seems once the item has been inspected or looked over. Just a thought. Or maybe the "buddy" thought the seller was going to "give it away" or give him the "buddy discount" and just didnt have his money right. Ive tried to sell stuff to friends before and have had to put it on the internet to sell it for the that same reason...or they wanted me to wait two weeks or longer so they can get their money right..in some cases ill wait in others i could not wait. Who knows what the reasons are.... But if i say i will sell you something, i generally give a timeline to pay me and if not met, ill notify and ask if they can pay me immediatly and if not, ill move on. 1 Quote

Exactly, that's called having respect. Quote
