Don't know where you were fishing but there is none of that at this lodge.

Being Far from the border and surrounded by a massive mountain range, Lake Baccarac enjoys the security that isolation provides.

We were at Lake Commendero both times, also very remote and in the Sierra Madre mountains. The problem is there are some small villages around the lake that are very poor so stealing the contents of the boats coolers was an easy way for them to get groceries for their families. Our guide never seemed very worried so I wasn't ever very concerned. I'd be more than willing to go back despite the slight risk.

OK - what were you travel arrangements to and from the Lake ?

Did you fly in or was there over ground travel involved ?

We flew into Matzatlan and then drove 3 hours via cargo van through the mountains to the lake then it was a 10 minute bus ride back and forth to the lake. It was a great trip but it sounds like your travel arrangements were much nicer. The lake was still a little young so not as many big fish either but I still managed to get a DD my second time around. I bet I gained 10 pounds from all the amazing food I ate that week  :eyebrows:

We used the Luck-e-strike brand.  They were good for a few fish.  There is no REALLY good option out there, but these worked for us.

Was the Scrounger something you guys took with you or a "local go to"?  Scroungers don't get the "press" that they deserve!

Jeff had brought them down on his trip last year and had solid results.  A Magnum Fluke as well as the 6 & 7 1/2 inch Slug-go were the trailers of choice.  I had not fished this bait before that week.  I was initially skeptic as the 3/0 hook seemed a little under sized for the resident fish, but we landed a high percentage of the fish we stuck on the bait; including 2 over 9lbs. After some repeated unhooking the bait needed to be retired or the fish would do it for you.

What an awesome trip guys.  That's a place that's been on my list for quite some time now.

Heck you're half way there - at least compared to me that is ~

I got the second biggest fish of the trip, and had the first DD of the trip for a couple days.  I slacked off and let the other guys have some fun at the end...... :laugh5:

I been to Comendero, Gurrero, El Salto and Baccarac many a times, nothing like it. If you get a chance to go take it, fishing trip of a life time.

Your are profoundly correct. I totaled up my best ten fish & they weighed 81.75 lbs. I don't now where else I could duplicate that except lake erie in my dreams.
