RyneB Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I was definitely shocked by Rojas' comments. I kept hearing him calling Alton garbage, a snake and unproffesional. I definitely don't think it was fake. I had a problem with Rojas not saying anything to Altons face when he passed him. He was yapping to the camera, but when he passed him he was quiet as a church mouse. Quote
Goose21 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 This is rediculous really. Rojas did not own that water, Alton Jones was there throughout the tournament. Rojas needs to take off his skirt, put on some fishing pants, and go fishing. 1 Quote
kadas Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Too bad---starting to sound like NASCAR--gave up on it because i do not watch soap operas and if this keeps up i will give up on BASS--if they are promoting this for rating IMO they are making a mistake--will not watch grown men acting like kids on a playground--disappointing--JMHO Quote

Megastink Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 come on, guys, SOMEBODY DVR'd the tournament... post that video! Quote
Northern Strain Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 So you can now claim a mile long stretch of river as yours for an entire 4 days? Thats news to me, I thought it was whoever got there first every day. If he spilled the beans as to where he was catching fish, shame on him. Loose lips sink ships. Thank god someone finally said this! Those dudes need to shut up and fish, and if Dean couldn't get there before Jones then tough luck. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 26, 2013 Super User Posted March 26, 2013 I watched the Basstrak on day 3, and Alton WAS in the same area on day 3. What's he supposed to do, tank the day, or go fish unproductive water and just concede the area to Dean? I could see if Rojas was wayyyy out in front and Faircloth was nipping at his heels, and Alton had no shot, but it was a tight event, with small bags. Jones had just as good a chance of winning as anyone if he could whack a big sack out of there, and if it was the only area he had any faith in he'd be a fool not to go where he caught them on the other 3 days. Kriet even said Jones was in there all 3 days and in practice. None of us will ever know what exactly went down, except the 2 dudes involved, and third for that matter if you consider Kriet was in there too. 1 Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 come on, guys, SOMEBODY DVR'd the tournament... post that video! I think I still have it on DVR. I will look tonight and post the highlights if it is allowed. Quote

flippin and pitchin Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Do you think this was aired by accident ? The producers were looking to hit a nerve. They didn't have to air Rojas' comments. It was a distraction to an interesting tournament. Quote
TNBassin' Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I was watching MLF one day with Rojas and Ish, and Rojas made the comment that Ish "thinks he's a frogger but he's nothing". It may have been just idle trash talk, but it sure sounded like he was ripping on Ish. Now Rojas is pulling this crap on Jones. Quote

PABASS Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I watched this tourney on TV and the way its was stated by the announcers was there is a unspoken rule that you don't take a spot from someone poised to win(Rojas) the tourney when your back 7th place(Alton), they then showed Rojas making several comments about the situation, BASS made the situation worse, they fed the troll and the troll took the bait.  During this it was stated by the announcers Alton didn't fish this area all week, so whom is trying to create the drama? Super User J Francho Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 Three guys found the same fish. That sucks, but it happens. There should have been some discussion, but for whatever reason, there wasn't. I don't think it affected the outcome of the tournament. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted March 28, 2013 Super User Posted March 28, 2013 There are 39 posts on this thread and counting. Look down through the tournament forum threads and you will see that it is rare for a tournament thread to get this many posts.  We can debate how they shouldn't have aired it on television but this thread is a perfect example of why they did. 1 Quote

There has been some talk about how much of a jerk he is to the marshals in his boat as well. Quote
Dinky Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 BASS should ask the Marshals of the 3 pros involved about what actually happened-they will be more objective;  There is an unwritten etiquete that you do not poach someone elses spots--but it seems to occur a lot --after all these guys have practiced for 3 days and all of them can read a map/electronics. Super User Sam Posted March 29, 2013 Super User Posted March 29, 2013 Is this like the Logano-Hamlin fued?  Will this bring excitement to bass fishing?  Will Jones and Rojas have a punch out like Stewart and Logano?  Will Ike go up,down and circle each of these two fisherman while he yells "Never give up!"  Will the G-Man run over their lines?  Will Ish and Hackney have a brawl at the resturant's buffet line?  Stay tuned.  Its bass fishing like NASCAR.  Can't get any better than this!!!!! 2 Quote
jhoffman Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Im gonna repeat what I said over on the video page   I dont care if I fished a spot for three days, you come along to the spot and Im not there then you beat me there and I move on. Thats how it works in the world of fishing. You dont go to a trout stream and jump out at the best pool and proclaim everyone there fishing is "garbage" because you caught a 20" fish there yesterday and decided to sleep in an hour and you think you own that hole. Same thing here...  Someone either ran their mouth about the fish in that creek or all the guys really did have limited places to go and just showed up the same place.  In my mind, any day Rojas was there first, it shouldve been his till he pulled out. Same for anyone else. If jones was there first after launching six boats behind then Rojas shouldve went somewhere else.  These are public waters, I see this crap all the time in the public woods as well. A guy thinks because he shot a deer there one year that he can hang a treestand he might not hunt all season and everyone should stay out of the entire area, even if they brought their own stand. 1 Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted January 23, 2015 Super User Posted January 23, 2015 I am a prefesional tournament fisherman just the same as dean, I fish on the flw tour though. Along with many others its my way of earning a living and from the point of view of of a fellow tournament fisherman I believe that Alton was completely out of line. I know some of the guys on the elite tour so I have a little bit on insider info on this topic and from what I've heard Alton was fishing that creek but it was a streach of bank quite a distance from where Dean was fishing. For Alton to go and start in Dean's area on the final day was compleatly unprofesonial. Its one of those unwritten rules of the water that if you are in the back of pack in 12th place and have no chance at winning your supposed to give the leader his room and don't show up at his area on the final day, just for the fact that if your in last place you can't fall any further. Since I fish for my way of making a living I would have been just as angry as dean was because, I too know the pressure of worrying about not only trying to win but also having to worry about making that check to support your family. Some may not agree but I would have bashed him just the same whether or not it was on TV. Since you have made these statements, why not introduce yourself to us so that we me know you. My point is that it is easy to make statements when no one knows who you are.  2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Isn't the race to spots part of the contest? I'm all for sportsmanship, but not much into "unwritten rules". It's not like he was first one there and someone encroached inappropriately. If I want to see fighting I'll tune into a UFC event. With exception of MLF, tournament bass fishing is painful enough to watch, these guys need to wise up for all their sakes. 3 Quote
