BONZ Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 What color are you using? I've only ever used clear and the sports authority by me only has camo and smoke colored Yo Zuri hybrid. I'd like to try this line. Quote

cadman Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I'm late to the party as well and have never used it. It's interesting with all these reports, as I also bought some of this line at Christmas time. I bought the original Yo-zuri in 10 lb for my baitcaster and ultra-soft 8 lb for my spinning reels. I have not used it as yet and am waiting for ice to go off the lakes here. Also bought the KVD line conditioner as suggested by many here on an earlier thread. With all the guys saying so many good things about it on this site, I hope it's as good as stated. I bought the 600 yard spools, where do you guys buy bigger spools and do both lines come in clear? I bought the ultra-soft in mist green. Quote

I bought the ultra-soft in mist green. In 30 degree temps the conditioner didnt do anything for the line. I gave it overnight to set up but it didnt seem to help the line at all. I really cant make a judgement now because almost every line is going to suck in this cold weather. Quote
skeletor6 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I used the line and have found some pros and cons in regards to its usage. Pros Price (this stuff is CHEAP!) Strength (very strong line) Knot Strength (haven't had any breakoffs) Versatility (can be used for many applications) Usage (Although I now use other line, this still remains a great spinnerbait line for me because of its strength) Cons Manageability & Memory (I found it coiled, and did not lay as flat on my spool as I would have liked) Sensitivity (this varies between individuals, but the line felt rather dead to me compared to mid to high grade fluoros) Longevity (I felt I had to replace the line too much, but then again, its so cheap it does not break the bank) Conclusion: This line is great for someone on a budget who does not have a lot of setups. It is very versatile and can do pretty much anything you want it to. It is extremely strong so you can use smaller diameters to accomplish the same tasks. Also, I found it great to use for spinnerbaits as I don't want to go out and buy 15lb fluoro, and the 12lb YZH has plenty of strength to pull a 3/4oz spinnerbait around. Crankbaits are also something that can be used too. Also, I am now using high grade fluorocarbon, so it is not a really fair comparison as the price ranges are not even close. Although I have parted with the line for most of my usage, it still has a place for using spinnerbaits and I could see it being a good choice for those looking for a highly versatile line who are on a budget. I do not recommend getting low grade FC, and this is a good option if you are on that kind of budget, do not like braid, and are looking for an alternative. Its performance is much better than cheap FC IMHO. NOTE: Take my information FWIW. It is just my experiences with the line (YZH 12lb).$12 for 600yards of some decent line is tough to beat. I know many people on the forum have a limit to what they can spend, its a good way to get a lot of line for cheap. Also, it saves a lot of lures with its strength which also saves $. Quote
Triton Man Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I read a lot of positive reviews so I decided to pick up a spool of 8lb hybrid since I like to use 8 lb on my spinning reels. I've been using spiderwire 100% fluro that was on clearance a few years ago so I stocked up but have run out now. I fish a lot but cant spend a lot so I hope this line will work as a good replacement. Does it feel and act more like a fluro or a mono? I wont get to test it for a couple weeks probably due to frozen lakes and bass season doesn't open until the end of April when I can finally test it for real. Quote
Diggy Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I got a jig hung up on 12lb today and I had to fight to try to break the line off. I got frustrated but I actually got my jig back. Same thing happened yesterday and I pulled a tree limb in until the limb would move no further. I had to wrap the line around the reel feed to break the jig off. Ive broken PP braid easier at times. BassThumb Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Hybrid really is the most useful line on the market, and it's much stronger than what it's rated for. I use 4-6# on spinning reels and 10-12# on casting reels, and wet it down with KVD conditioner. Quote
A-Rob Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I use 12# on my MH worm rod. I have yet to break it off. Fish still seem to bite it so I'm keeping it! It handles well for me. I cannot justify spending FC $$ when yo zuri works better than fine Quote
backcast88 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I tried it and didn't care for it. It was cheap and impossible to break but I didn't find it very sensitive and it had a lot of memory even after being treated with KVD line & lure. I used the remaining bit to snell small hooks for fishing off piers at the outer banks but won't buy another spool. I'll stick with 100% FC or mono. 1 Quote
Bonifas9017 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Is 8# too much for spinning gear. 8# is what I normally use. Should I down size to 6#. What do you guys think Quote
kylek Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Is 8# too much for spinning gear. 8# is what I normally use. Should I down size to 6#. What do you guys think I went with 6#. I am pretty sure the breaking strength is close to 12#s and pretty sure the 8# is about the same. I think Roadwarrior uses 6lb and loves it. Quote
kylek Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Thanks what about on a bait caster. I have 4 rods rigged up with 12lb and one with 15lb. I think the 12lb would be the best all around line. Quote
kylek Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 What knots do you guys use? I use the palomar knot for everything. Haven't had any reason to try anything else. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 3, 2013 Super User Posted April 3, 2013 Is 8# too much for spinning gear. 8# is what I normally use. Should I down size to 6#. What do you guys think I think #6 is a better choice. It has a breaking strength of 11.95 lbs. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 3, 2013 Super User Posted April 3, 2013 I haven't been able to test my 12lb Yo-Zuri yet, decided to get a spool to test out since everyone raves about it. I've used P-Line in the past and had no issues, but since it was on sale I decided to give Yo-Zuri a go. Quote
BassThumb Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Is 8# too much for spinning gear. 8# is what I normally use. Should I down size to 6#. What do you guys think 8# is a little springy on a spinning reel. The 6# is plenty strong for a medium-power rod. If you're using a ML and have the drag set lightly, 4# works very well. Thanks what about on a bait caster. 10-12# is the perfect line for moving baits (cranks, buzz, spinners, etc) fished on a baitcasting setup. I have no need to go with the 15#, but some other may want to try it if they're breaking the 12#. What knots do you guys use? I've always used the Improved Clinch on mono, copoly (Hybrid), and fluorocarbon. I see no reason to switch. Quote
Bonifas9017 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Thanks guys I am going with 6# for spinning reel and #12 for my baitcaster. I found a del online for 4.99 each Quote
Triton Man Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I decided to exchange the 8# I bought and got the 6# after all the comments on here and comparing it to the line I've been using. Looked online at different line thicknesses and it seems like yo zuri just under rates their line. The thickness of their 8# (12# breaking strength) was the same as many others 12# line thickness. Same with their 4# breaking near 8# was similar thickness to most lines 8#. I dont know when I will string it up though since I had already prepped my rods for the season and try to get a season out of my line. I also just recieved my spool of 12# supercaster line and bought a 4# and 8# spool of p line fluroclear since there were lots of good reviews of that as well. I spooled the 4# on my new 6' sc premier med lite with new symetre 2500 and that line seemed like a perfect fit and so far is very manageable although I haven't caught anything on it to test sensitivity yet. Super User roadwarrior Posted April 4, 2013 Super User Posted April 4, 2013 There are no industry standards, but Ande Fishing Line is representative in my opinion simply because it is IGFA certified and claims more World Records than all other lines combined. Hybrid matches up either exactly or very closely in every size I fish. Quote
