Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 24, 2013 Super User Posted March 24, 2013 Finally able to sit down and really relax a bit and log back into the forums. First real time off since Christmas. As much as I love what I do, sometimes you just wear down a bit. Missed checking in once in a while. Looking forward to catching up with you all. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 24, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 24, 2013 I don't work the long hours that some of you guys do but the 48-56 hour work weeks I put in every week are plenty for me. 1 Quote

I would almost give my left nut to catch some Peacocks!! Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 25, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 25, 2013 Had a chance to wet a line in between all that work? I would almost give my left nut to catch some Peacocks!! Got out for a couple of hours on a pair of short trips. Saw a couple peacocks doing their mating rituals and whatnot. Wasn't really trying to catch any though. Was more interested in finding largemouth. Found a good school and had a little fun. I did find a monster female on a bed deep in some grass that I plan on visiting soon. Little too windy to check it out today. Quote
Trailer Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I don't work the long hours that some of you guys do but the 48-56 hour work weeks I put in every week are plenty for me. I'd say average for me is 60 but it can always be more than that. And at 60 hours I'm spent. No mas. But I like the money. I hope everyone gets some much needed time off to recharge the batteries. There's no better way to do so than fishing. Quote

But I like the money. I hope everyone gets some much needed time off to recharge the batteries. There's no better way to do so than fishing. Lucky lucky lucky. I'm hating this four tens. Even if it is paying 4 more an hour on top of my base pay. It takes 60 to 72 to keep me chipper. 84 to make me happy. Any thing over that is even better. I can generally pull down between 72 and 84 for at least 6 months out of the year. I would much prefer 9 months of it. But hey I take what they will give me. The way this year has been going I'm gonna be lucky to get 4 months worth. Still beats the 30 and 25 hour weeks I got the first half of 2012. Quote
The Rooster Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 With all that work, where does the family fit in, let alone fishing? I personally refuse to work more than a standard work day's length, and only for 5 days a week, less if I can get away with it. It's easier to do now that I'm self employed, but even when I was working a regular job I would do this. Bosses didn't like it but I just said I work to live, not live to work. Without a family life and/or personal time, what's even the point? Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 I try not to work more than 40-50 a week but I also don't hesitate to bust out early and I always use up all my vacation time. I am truly happy and blessed that I have a good job and am able to provide for my family and spend time with them as much as I do. 1 Quote

Without a family life and/or personal time, what's even the point?I'm greedy. I can make more than some doctors or lawyers do in a year. Without having the 8 plus years of school. Fishing and family, oh and rugby, still fit into the equation. Its all a matter of managing your time. Plus if I'm working 72 hours plus a week I'm nowhere near my home. I like doing electrical and welding enough that I thoroughly enjoy going to work. Its fun to me. If I get sent on the road, then I have my work family with me. You eventually get somewhat used to it after a while. Once you hit your third or fourth seven day week. Everything all blurs together, you honestly don't even know what day of the week it is. Plus when your done you got a fat sack of money to spend. These kind of hours aren't for everyone, I just enjoy the money it provides. Also I'm not working these hours 365. At most I get 4 maybe 5 straight weeks at 72 plus. The rest are dispersed through the year. Quote

Same here, I love the fact that 40 hours and my bills are covered no need to kill it but when OT is offered I take it. However it does get old quick if it turns into a multi week thing. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 27, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 27, 2013 I look at it this way, we do this project each year. It's nothing out of the ordinary. I can make a very significant portion of my yearly income in three months doing it. Besides, I fit family into it. My parents and daughters hung out at a hotel on the beach. Kids got to play around and build sand castles on the Today show. Hung out with Ron McGill and the animals he brought. They understand that I'm at work and know its a short term thing that I'm away. Plus they usually get to do some cool stuff during it. Quote

Just look at the avatar to figure out the my trade. Unless something insane happens with my current company I intend to stay for a long time. I like it here. They treat you like your family. They honestly go above and beyond anything I've ever heard of as far as taking care of us employees. If by some chance something were to happen I pack up hit the road and work shutdowns on refineries. Life is peachy. Quote
