BiteMe73 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 The ceramic line guide insert on my brand spanking new rod came out before I had a chance to string line through it. Do you think the bare eye would have an adverse effect on the integrity of braid? The braid line is Tuff-Line Supercast. I wrote Airrus and asked for a new insert. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 I'll be honest, Ive fished without the insert before and didn't have a problem but with the coating on Supercast i wouldn't advise it. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 My answer would be yeah. Inserts aren't supposed to fall out on a new rod. They are designed to fall out a few weeks after the rod is out of warranty. I'd be hitting up Airrus for a new rod. Where did you get this rod. A good dealer would help you in this matter. 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 BTW the rod will need a new tip not an insert. Quote
BiteMe73 Posted March 23, 2013 Author Posted March 23, 2013 Thanks for the responses guys. Funny cuz after I lost it and posted the question on here one of my cats found it. So I go to put it back in with some crazy glue and it fell to the floor and I lost it again . Well it's somewhere in my kitchen on hard wood floor. You would think I would be able to find it on a wood floor but no. I got the rod from TW. Maybe I should contact them too. I really hope I will not have to replace the whole doggon eye. As soon as I took off the bubble wrap up receiving it the insert fell to the ground. I was very careful to cut the bubble wrap away instead of just ripping it off. Sucks for me. We'll see what kinda of customer service Airrus has. Quote
SoCalFisher Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I wouldn't fish it without it. It Will cut up your line. Quote
BiteMe73 Posted March 23, 2013 Author Posted March 23, 2013 Well TW has discontinued the Co-Matrix 2.0. If Airrus wants to be funky and not replace my defective rod TW said they would have me send them the rod back and they would re-emburse me the money back in a GC. If that happens I'll get a different rod. Was just looking at Dobyns. What do yall think of a Dobyns 734C Savvy Micro Guide as a frog rod? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 Being a new rod, I would send it back. There is no need to screw around with something that's not right from the get go. 1 Quote

mcipinkie Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 d**n, man. The whole tip guide can't cost $2.00. If you like the rod, buy a new tip and epoxy it on. It's 10 minutes work. I'll bet you TW would send you a new guide for free if you asked nice. If you can find the old insert, pop it back in. Got to be in the frame, not on it. Mix up 2 drops of epoxy and put between the guide frame and the insert and go fishing. Quote

Apparently I bought the very last Co-Matrix of this kind they had in their inventory. No mas it's now discontinued. Must be the fishing gods way of steering me towards a Dobyns. If Airrus has s*itty customer service and won't replace the whole rod, TW said they will refund my money and I'll just upgrade to a Dobyns or something. Guess it ain't meant to be. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 24, 2013 Super User Posted March 24, 2013 I would first examine all the other guides. If it's just the one I'd replace it locally, much easier than shipping it back, plus the turn around time is quicker. If after an installation of a new guide a problem with another guide pops up I would send it back at that time. Quote
TNBassin' Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Ditch that rod ASAP. No way I'd keep that sucker if it fell apart before you even ran line through it. Quote
