I want to replace all my trebles on my RES.  It is one of my go to lures and I feel as if I would land alot more fish if I switch out my hooks.  I want to upsize one.  1/2oz come with size 4 hooks out of package if I am correct.  I want to move up in size but don't want to how the bait runs.  So I think I have to go with a short shank treble with a wider gap.  I am not sure if I can go up a size if I don't get a short shank but correct me if I am wrong

I am looking at these but am open for suggestion.

The Owner stingers look nice as well but i dont think come in a  short shank version.

Thanks for any help you can give me guys I really appreciate it!

If you dont go short shank likely you will have hooks fouling each other.

Those are the same hooks I use and I have caught a couple 8#+ with them.

Yes  :laugh5:

I've seen so many stock SK hooks straightened and bent out by big fish it's insane.

I like VMC #3 short shanks on all my 1/2oz traps. They don't tangle, they snag less, and they hold up when a big fish eats my bait.

Nope I have zero problem with them.  I will say that I do change a lot of them out, but that is only to go with a bigger hook.  The stock hook is made by VMC and honestly I think bending hooks on "big" fish is mainly angler error.

I run the stock SK hooks if I am running low on replacements, but if I have replacements around they get changed, and I won't tournament fish with a SK bait that has not had it's hooks changed. To the OP...I use the Mustad KVD 1x strong 2x short, Elite triple grips on my RES's. I stick with the stock size on the 1/2 oz...#4's I think.

I was wondering the same thing until last Sunday. Hooked up with a 3 and STRAIGHTENED one of the hooks.

I have caught plenty of 3-5 lbs on the same lure without problems.

I will be changing all stock RES and 1&2.5 hooks before they get wet.

Yep, I change all of mine before they hit the water.

Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip Treble Hooks #2 on my 1.5's and 2.5's.

Mustad KVD Elite 1x Strong Triple Grip Treble Hook #4 on my RES.

I remember you were saying a few weeks ago that you didnt know why we changed them because you never had a problem with them.....i was thinking to myself that it was only a matter of time. Sorry your fish got away.

Lol. Honestly man I thought of that exact thread right when I saw the hook. My momma always said I learn things the hard way!
