Number 4!! I barely made it with two. Congrats are in order. Cherish every day you have with them, and when one of them looks up at you with those big sad eyes in the middle of summer and asks you to take them fishing...don't you think twice about calling in. You just tell the boss the First Sergeant gave you a pass! <g>

Thank you sir, and all this kid talk makes me recall why SHE says I need sick days.....She wants to send me to the doc and have him fix me like a dog.

I called in sick to fish my home water with a buddy.

LOL.  I've done it too.

I have asthma, so I have a pretty good excuse when the sick hours start to get a little high.

Never, as a teacher is just doesnt fly.  I have a lot of time in the summer, which is a bonus, but with 4 kids at home I dont go as often as you may think.  I get two personal days each year, I use one for my family fishing trip to Lake of the Ozarks each year.

But I have never called in sick to hunt or fish.

I can only think of one time I have ever called in "sick" to fish. That was with a previous job though. The one I have now, would be REALLY bad if I called in the day I was working. Luckily, the earliest I go into work is 4pm so I can get out on the water early and be off and at work in time.

When I was younger, yeah. But as I've gotten older and became a father I've decided that's not a good witness to my kids and those around me. If your able to work, you work...if I want to fish I take PTO or go in the evening/weekend.

Short answer...no.  I have been at my job for 20 years and when were not busy, or there is nothing specific to me that needs to get done, I am free to come and go as I please. I also pitch in and work late when I don't have to, come in early, work weekends. I have rarely, if ever been denied time off to fish.  And honestly , I spend 120 + days a year on the water as it is, while still working 50-70 hours a week from April-November. I have plenty of time to fish with out having to call in sick. Heck, I have the freedom, if say I come in on a random weekday, things are slow, I just ask the boss "we busy today?"   He will say " nope, go fishing" I don't think I would have that privilege if I didn't step up to the plate when ever he asked, or by sneaking around and "calling in" when we were busy.

I have never called in sick. A first line manager in the dept. I work in told me many years ago that the big bosses do not like sick days. The only time we are expected to be out sick is if we are being hospitalized.

I'd quit that job right now.

id love to, thought about it plenty of times, but never actually did it. lots of times ive called in sick and then work will call me at home to ask me questions about something, so if im not home or dont call back in a reasonable amount of time, they can pretty much figure i lied.

Or in bed asleep from being so sick, or at the doctor when not at home. I swear I despise companies that think they own employees and they're not allowed to have recovery time since its costing them money or some inconvenience.

I've never called in, but I did ask for days off to fish tournaments or for practice days. Since I was practicing what I worked for, they couldn't really say no...

And now that I won a paid day off for employee of the month (Still in my first year at current employer, no time accumulated yet.) I will be taking that day off near the C&R opening in Michigan to go to St. Clair.

If you love your job more than you do fishing then great your job should be your priority. If not you should work to satisfy your needs and the need of your family. You wont take **** when you die other than the great times and the great memories and that is something you rarely get from a normal job.

Like somebody said, Some companies believe they own employees and thats wrong. I could be sick enough not to go and work, but not sick enough that I cant go fishing. either way, every body has a different perception. Im scared shitless of dying and I hope that when the day comes and I feel close to the end of my being I can look back and say, Ive enjoyed my life as much as I could. Die in peace without regrets of dedicating my life to a company that a day or two after im gone have a replacement and have forgotten about me already.

Companies do not own you.  They rent you.

Don't call in unless I'm sick..... but if I did it would either be Lake Erie or Lake St. Clair for smallmouth.

If you call in sick to work to go fishing, make sure you don't have a sunglasses sunburn when you return the next day.
