CC268 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I got some Seaguar Invisx Flouro for my dropshot rig and that stuff isn't cheap haha...I was going to use some cheap mono as backing and then tie on the Flouro but even after watching youtube videos I just could not figure it out...I got frustrated and just spooled up my spinning reel with just the flouro...is there an EASY knot I can use to tie two lines together than I can keep for future use? Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Yeah, the Alberto Knot (Modified Albright) is the way to go. Uni-to-Uni is easier and quicker for me to tie (more practice with it), but the Alberto has a smaller diameter and is extremely strong. Someone posted how quick it is to tie the Blood Knot. I was taught to tie it before I was even a teenager. It has always been a pain for me to tie, but maybe you would be better with it. 1 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Uni to uni knot another for the uni to uni knot. I love Seaguar Invizx and use it in conjunction with PowerPro 10lb Braid. Make sure to put more loops on the braided side. Quote
CPBassFishing Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I use the uni to uni. never, ever use the bloot knot unless you like losing leaders and lures when you cast. Quote
leadslinger Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I use the Modified Albright when tying FC leader to braid. It's a small (long/flat), strong knot, but takes a bit of care to tie properly (I guess they all do). I've tried the uni-uni, which is easier to tie, but as others have said, it's a larger knot. 1 Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Get yourself a tie fast knot tying tool, best $10 in the world I've had one for a couple years. Have yet to use that sucker! Definitely need to use it a few times this year. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 I use the Modified Albright when tying FC leader to braid. The Albright, Modified Albright, and other iterations are what I tie. Uni-to-Uni as well, but I rarely tie this anymore because of the slim/small profile and unbelievable strength of the Albright family. Been tying Albrights for years now, and have found that when I'm tying with NEW Power Pro and leader that I need to do 7-9 wraps UP the line, then 5-7 back down. If I try a normal Albright, it may slip. If the Power Pro coating is worn off, the regular Albright holds perfectly with 7-10 wraps. With all of this, give whatever knot you tie a good pull to test. You don't want slippage on that 8 pounder you just caught. Quote
BobP Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I use the Tie Fast tool too. I've screw up other knots and have lost leader and lure when they failed but using the Tie Fast is idiot proof and I've never had a knot tied with it fail - ever. That said, it does make a knot that is not as small as an Alberto knot so you have to decide for yourself how small/large is acceptable to you. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Save your money. Master the uni to uni if its easier for you. I personally like the alberto knot I find it easier to tie with braid to fluro. Practice... practice... practice. Quote
BronzeChaser Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Another vote for the Alberto knot. I fish with braid a lot and always use leaders from 6lb to 20lb. I started off with blood knots, and even though they are a little faster and easier to tie, they aren't nearly as strong or reliable as the alberto. It'll be a little slow at first, but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to tie it pretty quick. It only takes me 20-30 seconds to tie one and it's by far the best line to line joining knot I've used Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Another vote for the Modified Albright!! Great knot!! Quote
PABASS Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Modified Albright has one of the highest breaking strength with braid to FC and Mono. Also has a slim profile and makes it easier to cast, fairly easy to tie and while I never lost a fish using this knot I will tell you my big hands struggle with this knot on 6#FC but as others have said practice, practice, practice. I have a 10# spool of line at work that I practice knots with and this knot always gets tied to keep me in practice. Quote
CC268 Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 So what is the purpose of doing braid to flouro vs mono to flouro....I am confused on the whole braided line thing Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 So what is the purpose of doing braid to flouro vs mono to flouro....I am confused on the whole braided line thing Braid is best on spinning tackle because it has virtually no twist as compared to mono, fluoro, copoly lines, making it a great option for a mainline. Ahh gotcha...I just see hear people using like 60lb braid and I just don't see why you would need something that heavy! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Ahh gotcha...I just see hear people using like 60lb braid and I just don't see why you would need something that heavy! Tend to agree. I have one baitcaster with 40lb test, but rarely ever use it. My spinning rigs all have 10lb braid and I use a leader. My main baitcaster has 20lb braid + leader. Quote
fl_bass Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Braid is extremely thin vs mono so for the equivalent diameter of mono your braid line will pull out a tuna. Lol so that's why you see all these huge weights. At least that has been my understanding. BTW just because it says 40# test it probably breaks at a higher weight. Quote
CC268 Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 Interesting....I am running 12lb mono on my baitcaster...I'm sure a lot of you already know but I am new to bass fishing and that was a starting point someone recommended for me Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 22, 2013 Super User Posted March 22, 2013 I also like the Albert knot. Outside of practice and repetitions with the knot I have found it easier to use two different colored lines. For example... my main lines are mostly clear in color and I use green colored Trilene big game for backing. It helps a bit to be able to know which line is which during the knot tying process. Also once you start losing some of your mainline during regular fishing use, you will have a good idea of where your backing starts. Once it gets beneath a certain level you will have a better idea of when to re-spool. 1 Quote
