EvanT123 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 So I was going to flush my bearings the other day and as I went to remove the bearing from the side plate the clip popped out and landed on the carpet. After searching for a half hour with magnets on each hand I gave up. I then called shimano and they offered to send me one for free. Knowing this probably won't be the last time, I decided to order 10. The customer service agent told me with would be 3.80 with 3 in shipping. Ok so I bought them and look what came in the mail today. It's like some sort of sick Christmas joke. Quote
Maico1 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 And I thought there was going to be a couple of reels in there......That is funny. 1 Quote
0119 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Abu sent me a dozen c clips in a envelope years ago, just a stamp. I wonder what they do now? Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted March 20, 2013 Super User Posted March 20, 2013 So, if you order a reel, it will probably come in a crate....lol Hootie 2 Quote

The Rooster Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 What happens if you order a rod? Would it show up strapped to a flatbed on a semi? 2 Quote
thehooligan Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 haha, samething happened to me, i looked for the clip for 30 minutes, tore my whole room apart... Finally found it in an empty cup, lol. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Service shops have been ordering and seeing packageing that way now since first of the year. Watch out for your price increases to pay for that waste. We have talked to the service dept guys, and the prob is in the shipping dept. Probably a new UPS contract. Tight Lines All! Quote
CountBassula Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 One time I was detail stripping my Beretta 92FS Inox, and you know what V shaped twisted spring that puts upward tension on the trigger transfer bar? Yea that one, went "PIIIIIIIIIINNNNGGGGGGG" and into my living room carpet! Fortunately I found it by gently caressing the carpet... in the middle of which my wife walks in, looks at me with a stink eye, and I just replied "Don't ask :-P" Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 21, 2013 Super User Posted March 21, 2013 Wow! They used to send parts in teeny, tiny, little boxes. That's nuts! What a waste. Quote
baluga Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yup, I also had he same situation when I ordered a couple of handle knob cap. They sent it in a box that can fit a reel. I thought the sent me a free reel when I saw the box in my front door step.. Haha.. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted March 22, 2013 Super User Posted March 22, 2013 it is sort of a sick christmas joke. The joke is on us. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 The joke is that you cant order anything anymore without paying more for the item in shipping than the item itself. Quote
fishingman88 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Hahahaha. Shimano taking the extra step to make sure your parts get there safely I must say though Shimano has some quality service. Especially on reels with their Platinum Warranty (i.e., Stella SW5000). They take care of their customers Quote
BenB54 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I bet with many companies having a flat rate shipping contract/fee is why they did that. On the other hand, you'd have to believe the padded envelope would still be cheaper to ship than a box. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 Some outfits have reasonable, actual cost shipping policies, in sensible packaging. Many others, however, don't... Smooth Drag is an exception. A buck for mailing drag washers - that just about pays for a stamp and the envelope - fair enough! And Dawn even cuts up a little piece of cardboard to put in the envelope to keep the drag washers from getting bent... Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 One thing is for sure: the package won't get lost in the mail. Quote
