I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions for a rod to match up with my pflueger president...

I would like to keep it as cheap as possible, under $100...

Are you looking for L, ML, M, MH?

I've been eyeing the new Daiwa T spinning rods at BPS. They're incredibly light, get good reviews.

But they start at M, so if you're looking for ML or L, you'd have to look elsewhere.

I'm a big fan of the Compre rods, but the previous gen with cork handles. New models get good marks from folks on the forums here. Lifetime warranty is hard to beat.

Veritas also gets great marks.

Also mulling sub-$100 rods myself.

I'm looking for a rod that will be able throw weightless soft plastics or texas rig 1/16 oz to 1/4 oz...

Well, 1/16 (total weight of rig) can be thrown on medium gear, although I might prefer it on a ML rig to get more distance unless the M rig is a moderate to fast tip.

Rules out the Daiwa I mentioned as the weight starts at 1/4.

The BPS Extremes are on sale from $99 down to $79. The Light model is rated for 1/16-1/4...

And so is the 6'6" ML

BPS Carbonlite, I have a 6'6" MH with a president XT, it will cast a mile, use it for exactly what you want. Plenty of hookset power and sensitivity. Worth every penny IMHO.

I have a St. Croix Premier with mine. You can find them for under $100 on ebay.

Great combo.

I have mine paired with a BPS Carbonlite. I have yet to fish with it, but it feels really good.

I have the Supreme paired with a carbonlite and I've fished it a ton!!! Super sensitive rod and extremely light in your hands. I think they sell for $99 at BPS so just within your budget. Seriously one of the best rods I've ever used, and I've got a lot of big brand name rods. I can't say enough good about Carbonlite rods. Definitely try it out at your closest BPS if available.

A BPS is coming within an our of me next year... Right now I am leaning towards the Shimano Clarus. Still don't know though... I have heard a lot about the Carbonlite...

Shimano Clarus also has really nice reviews. I've never used that rod before so I can't speak about it personally. I've got a Shimano reel though and it's awesome. I know they are a great company and build quality product. Just go with whatever you have most confidence in personally. That will be your most successful choice.

Wise move. Don't make a knee-jerk purchase (I've made enough to know it's not a good idea)

Clarus is an ok rod, but if you can afford it I'd recommend the Compre.  You can get one for under a 100, but if you can't the Clarus would be ok.  I'd probably choose a Veritas over the Clarus.  Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with the Clarus..but you can find a Veritas for 79.99 and I think it is a better buy over the Clarus.  The Clarus's only advantage is that it has a lifetime warranty imo.  So to recap, Compre or Veritas over the Clarus.  IMO, I own a rod from each line and rank them in that order.  Of course the Clarus I have is a cranking rod, so it isn't the same as what you're looking at it for.  To me when I checked out the Clarus in store, they seem more tip heavy and unbalanced compared to the Compre.  There is a big difference.  In the end though it's your choice of how it feels in your hands.

Match the rod to the reel if feel and comfort is important to you, you haven't mentioned the size.  If possible take your reel with you to the store.
