Let's see how many redneck friends I have on here that share a love for NASCAR.

Anyhow, the Bristol race was a snoozer for me. Not as much bent sheet metal as I'd like. I've been there several times but glad I wasn't there Sunday. I thought Joey Lagano's attempt to get "tough" with ex-teammate Hamlin was humorous at best. I'm pretty sure Hamlin could take him.

With all of that said, I'm still pretty sure Bristol is/was better than the race to come at California this week. My prediction is it will be follow-the-leader.

My two cents.

I enjoyed the race.  I like seeing them go three wide on such a short track!

I guess I just had high expectations of see big wrecks and bigger tempers flare. Maybe it wasn't that bad but I expected more. I guess the wreck at Daytona in Nationwide this year was more than enough to last the entire year.

Speaking of, the Nationwide race at Bristol was much better than Sunday's race for me. That Kyle Larsen kid was running down Kyle Busch and banged off his doors on the last lap. That was what I liked!

So much for Goodyear's new tire.  It accounted for most of the wrecks.

NASCAR as a whole has become boring.  Seems less competitive now due to all the "safety" changes the past few years.  While I never want to see anyone get hurt, they need to balance some of these changes with how they mitigate competitiveness.  I mean, really, when was the last time you didn't see the last few laps at Bristol become a free-for-all?

I've had Bristol on my bucket list for years, but now I'm rethinking that.

I guess Daytona set the tone. I've been watching NASCAR forever( at least 40 yrs ) never saw them run the top exclusively until this year. Bristol night race used to be the hardest ticket to get, not any more. NASCAR has been boring for some time, in fact it's so boring at my home track ( MIS ) that they have removed 5 sections of stands and have tickets as low as $25 and still can't sell the joint out. As a side note after watching Sundays broadcast I'm not sure which got more air time, the commercials or the race!!

Glen you'll definitely be able to get tickets.

You're right. Most of the race or wrecks were determined by tire failure. It's still not as bad as that Brickyard race a few years ago where Goodyear brought a tire that wouldn't last past 10 laps.

I'd still go to Bristol just for the experience. You can and will find tickets.

By the way, $25 for a ticket in Michigan? It's well worth that. I've paid 4 times that for tickets before.

I Got to watch the 48 crash doesn't that count for something?

The 48 team doesn't like Bristol. Everytime I've watched I remember Jimmie nailing the wall. I did meet Chad Knaus at a movie theatre standing in line to get popcorn at Bristol one year. He's a cool dude. Spoke for a couple of minutes and went on his way.

How about Denny Hamlin though!? That was a dreadful last 10 laps to watch him race around. He could NOT stay off the wall.

Plenty of empty seats at all the tracks, but, NASCAR just inked a very lucrative television deal.  They are getting paid more than ever in spite of attendance being down at the tracks, and declining television ratings.  Go figure.

All marketing, the racing became secondary a long time ago.

The basic description of all of their races, people lead until caution, once the restart settles down that person leads until the next one, close to the end something will happen to make them talk about who can make it on fuel, and repeatedly updating everyone on how far Danica is behind.

The commentators don't help, they are so into kissing Nascar's rear. For example, Darrel Waltrip raved about how much better having wings on the cars were, they allowed the drivers to catch them when the got lose. When the were removed, it became how horrible they were, how it was so hard to catch them if they got lose, were so hard to drive.

That's it! I'm switching to F1!

If only the World of Outlaws could get prime-time Sunday afternoon TV slots...

F1, sport car racing, and rally are the only racing I watch any more. F1 is getting pretty bad though. Just Google Bernie Elccstone's ideas for f1. He wants to make cirrus out of it. And with a guy that's 25 has won almost 30 races in 4 years. A three peat drivers champion. The only thing that makes f1 great any more. Is hoping some one else will win it.

In my eye's NASCAR went down the hill a long time ago. Its not the safety that's making it boring. In fact the cars are getting faster. NASCAR listens to the fans way more then they should. You should have seen what I saw on a racing forum after the Daytona 500. Every one is all of a sudden a areo and physics experts. Telling NASCAR what they should do to cars to make them better. NASCAR should be listing to the people that know that the hell there talking about. Not the blue collar fans.

NASCAR did not listen to the fans until the fans stopped filling the seats in the stands.

To the contrary, they courted the wine and cheese crowd while offending the good ol' rednecks who religiously supported NASCAR through its infancy and it's phenomenal growth into the 90s.  Among the things they did to offend those who brought them to the dance was to discourage the flying of the confederate flags in the camping areas in the infield at tracks like Daytona.

We've been going for over twenty years to Daytona.  When we first started going, there were Confederate flags flying all over the infield camping areas.  There were almost as many Confederate flags as there were American flags.

NASCAR further offended the base that brought them to the dance when they started taking a Madison Avenue approach to racing, and totally ignored the objections of their long time, old time fans.

That they have professed any serious interest in what the fans have to say is a recent development.

F1 started off the season with a surprise winner. Seems 3 or 4 teams are fast, looks like it will come down to tracks and conditions of who will win.

Take a look at World Challenge also, racing like the old Trans Am series in the 60's and 70's

The diversity of cars and equipment in the ALMS is great also.

Lotus who knew it would be Kimi's easiest win ever! LOL Looking forward to seeing the Houston race in both Moto GP and F1 this year since I missed it last year.

Love the ALMS because of the diversity and technology, you can see street cars from the US and over seas to whay out there prototypes running on deisel or electric powered at close to 200 mph

The Rolex Gran AM series isn't bad either, and some of their cars/teams have NASCAR affiliations through, manufacturers, owners and/or drivers.

NASCAR offended me when they brought in Toyota. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!? A TOYOTA!?

"Let me tell ya something Junior...when I nail this 2.4 L four cylinder to floor, we're gonna blow his doors off. Tighten yer seatbelt. One, two, three!..."

No, you've never heard that. Ever. That's what get's me about NASCAR these days.

Well I have said that before in a neon. Yea a neon. I drive a srt4 neon. It has a 2.4 with a turbo. Mine is making almost 300 hp at the wheels. Fun little car. I have had more fun in that car then any small block v8 car I have ever driven or owned.

Rhino I know were your coming form. I was part of the 90's boom. As soon as NASCAR went corporate that is when I stopped really caring. Before I hear well F1 and sports car racing is corporate. They always has been.

And about NASCAR listing to the fans. They should in some parts. They should not listen to the fans that know squat about how aero and physics effect a car. That would be like some one coming in to my shop. And telling me how to make some thing on a lathe or mill. Let alone how to program a cnc mill or lathe.

Still argueing about Toyota because of an available 4 cylinder? Have you checked the Ford Fusion's list of motors, how many cylinders? where is it built, hint not in the US.

The Chevy SS is an Australian car, Holden Commodore, rebadged as a Chevy.

So how about this week! not so boring huh, in any of the top motorsports.

NASCAR has the Lagano vs. Hamlin thing going down

F1 has the Vettel vs Webber thing going down. Which was spared a Nico vs Lewis because those two actually acted like men.

Speaking on the hamlin situation. I seen the wreck and am specifically intrugued by the car. Man it looks solid, waaay too solid didn't crumple or degrade that much which leads to the severity of the injury to Hamlin. Also NASCAR as some rediculously sturdy walls that are unforgiving. Looking at the cars the safety technology is very poor, IMHO the technology are the cars a somewhat poor for the speeds they attain. I recently watched a movie on Netflix called Truth in 24 II which cronicles the R18 in 2011, specifically this was after the new regs were employed by Le Mans requiring a closed cockpit for prototype race cars. The monocoque for the R18 was designed to exceed safety guidelines and it performed flawlessly in the two major crashes of Mcnish and Rockefeller. Which if you haven't seen either I suggest you YOUTUBE them. Spectaular! Both drivers walked away without even a concusion. But why is nascar so slack on safety? especially after Dale Sr.

Posted

Mcs lasts year Toyota cash was also bad. Were the Audi drivers were able to walk away. The Toyota driver got a fractured back like Hamlin has.  Here is a video for people that haven't seen the crash. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8jJB6viADM

According to Dr. Jerry Punch on ESPN today. Denny Hamlin will be out for a few months. If not more. He said it will be many weeks before he can even go to rehab. Then months before he can even be in a car. People on a racing forum I hit a lot. Are like he will be back in a few weeks. I am like this guy just broke his back. I do not see him being back this year. When a person usually breaks there back. they sit at home for about four months to a year.

I do agree NASCAR is way behind on the safety. I fell like there about 15-20 years behind in safety compared to other racing series around the world. I think that's because they don't want to tick off there fans. I would say a good percentage of NASCAR fans. Still believe the win on Sunday sell on Monday BS. These cars are nothing like what you and me can by at a dealer. So NASCAR wants to cars to seem "stock".

Yeah the one crash with Rockenfeller was on the mulsane striaght were they can hit over 200 mph plus or minus.and it was similar to the hamlin crash, clipped turned 90 degrees into the wall. check it out.

Your right Tipptruck these are no joke man, with these vertibrate fractures are they are just a hair away from being paralysed or dead, really if the vertibrate touchs the spinal cord or worse severs it. They end up like Dale Sr. which is unfortunate and totally preventable.

And that is the thing here, the stock classes of sports cars where that are constructed using road cars with portions being tube frame etc (similar to nascar - tube frame and sheet metal) but never hit the speeds that the prototypes or "stock" cars do on a nascar track. The GT class may make it to 130-150 mph, but not 200 mph and they do retain the road car cockpit with a cage welded into it versus an entire tube chasis. Seems like NASCAR is stuck with the line drawn at trying to be stock and simple chasis yet achieve mind blowing speeds at the risk of the drivers.
