Bass

The EDGE Bass Series, like all our rods, are all about performance. Each rod features the Black Widow handle, made from 100 percent carbon fiber and designed to deliver increased sensitivity over cork, EVA or carbon fiber foam wrapped alternatives.

Casting rods feature a spiral wrap, a technique borrowed from the custom rod builders of years ago that results in a rod that keeps your bait in the zone longer, casts further (or at least as far as conventional), and increases sensitivity by reducing weight on the blank.

All this technology adds up to one thing, more fish caught, and bigger smiles at the weigh in.

Calling these "G. Loomis" Edge rods is VERY misleading.  The name is simply "Edge."  And yes, they are designed by Gary Loomis himself.

Maybe cuz you sit there admiring it so the lure is sitting in the zone. It helps you dead stick better. ;) I'm with you BS :)

" like all our rods"  Would you elaborate on the our part? If you have 13 guides in a straight line on a blank and 13 guides that are "spiral wrapped. " how is the later guide placement lighter ?  If spiral wrapped rods are more sensative, why haven't I seen them on all the other high end manufacture's offerings ?

This is a stange post.  It's a good likeness of Mr. Loomis on the sales brochure though.

I have a spiral wrapped custom, and it has less guides than a traditional rod.

Are you telling that to me or the Company?

They aren't G. Loomis rods. Period. They are from North Fork Composites, which is Gary's new company. Very different from G. Loomis rods or TFO rods with Gary's name on them.

As fir the claims made, casting distance and accuracy is better, the guide spacing allows for fewer guides equaling less weight, which in turn grants better sensitivity. I'm unsure of the claim on leaving the bait in the zone longer, unless it is in relation to casting distance.

You. They aren't G.Loomis rods. It also clearly demonstrates the branding issue Gary is facing. These rods are supposed to be better than anyone else offers, NRX, Champ Extreme, Legend Extreme, etc. Most don't even know what NFC is.

All I see is Edge Fishing Rods by North Fork Composites not G Loomis Edge.....I find that very misleading, that is why I posted the article from TT.....

Well, it kind is a topic of it's own, and really you didn't do anything wrong.  I bet there are more than a few that aren't clear on it.

The real question is; did Mr Loomis just raise the bar? I'd like to get my hands on one of those rods, and find out for myself. I just told myself, self, you're done buying rods and reels for a while.

It's good this was brought up because I was getting confused regarding Gary's "official" line of rods.  I know Shimano owns G. Loomis but I always saw Gary's name on Temple Fork Outfitters.  How can Gary be in line with both Temple Fork and now with North Fork Composites?  Does he own Temple Fork?

If not then we have Gary Loomis Temple Fork Rods and Gary Loomis North Fork Edge rods as two seperate and distinct entities?

He cant use his own name by binding legal agreement with shimano right?

When Gary Loomis sold out of G. Loomis several years ago he started North Fork Composites (NFC).  Initially all NFC was doing was manufacturing rod blanks for the custom rod builder.  Initially the NFC blanks were limited models and grades only sold to the custom rod builders.  NFC created a program called Approved Rod Builder (ARB).

The ARB was created because North Fork Composites was not selling completed rods, only blanks.  The program was to allow custom builders to buy a blank.  Build it up, submit the completed build back to NFC for final approval.  And once approved based on a set of critiera, the builder would then be certified as an approved builder.  Therefore, be on an elite list of builders where a showcase would be on NFC's website essentially promoting NFC Blanks and certain builders.  Although, any custom builder could buy blanks and build on them.

I can say that NFC blanks are extremely nice, crisp and powerful.  Based on my limited experience with these particular blanks.  But, they also come with a fairly steep price tag.

Now enter Edge Rods....it appears that they are now a partnership with NFC where rods are now being manufactured strictly on NFC blanks.  I am unsure who the builder(s) for Edge is but, the address for North Fork Composites and Edge Rods happens to be the exact same.
