Super User roadwarrior Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 First year with this bait. Anyone have tips on their favorite size and rigging? Quote
CPBassFishing Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 5" on a 1/4 oz. 5/0 screw-lock, 3" on an 1/8 oz. 3/0 or a swimjig. I mainly use the strike king shadalicious but the money minnow is very similar, except it comes with the belly already slit. here's a video I made on the shadalicious, skip to 1:40 for rigging tips and how to get more fish out of them. 2 Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 Still playing a bit. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 I concur with CPBassFishing. Great video. The exact same bait & rigging I use. A real killer early in the season. Retrieve just fast enough to get both the head and tail to shimmy. Crazy effective! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 19, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 19, 2013 Well, I fish several paddle tails including the Shadalicious, but I am really interested in hearing about the Money Minnow. These baits appear to be a little thicker in both the head and tail. I was wondering if a jig head might be a better option here. I use the weighted hook on both the Hollow Belly and Shadalicious, but a jig head on the Keitech Swing Impact Fat. Quote
TrapperJ Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Caught alot of fish on the money minnow last year, Screw lock, 3/0 hook 1/8oz weight on the 3" Favorite 3 colors are Peral, white with chart, and white with red nose. All caught fish all year long. THe ponds i fished always had alot of grass they come through it great. They are called money minnows for a reason, when they were on sale mostly like a dollar off I would stock up. I grabbed some shadlicous to try out this year. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 Same rigging here. I find them extremely effective when you are either bringing them through lill pads, they never get hung up really or if you are trying to tick the tops of a grass bed. You can retrieve them pretty slowly and still achieve great action. I also like chucking the 6" version with a 7/0 screwlock as well. Keep a tight grip on you rod though because a lot of the hits are pretty crazy hard Quote

I tried a jig head on them a few times and i couldn't get the same action and since i liked to throw them in nasty cover areas they weren't as weedless. Quote
fishinkeebs Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I like them on a fish head spin or owner belly weighted hooks. Great action and great results with this lure for me. Quote
Stingray23 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I have fished the money minnow for several years now. I prefer them over the shadalicious. I like that they are softer and therefore have a better paddle tail movement. I rig them on Gamakatsu weighted superline EWG Quote
bassh8er Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I like the Bluegill color and the Foxy Shad. At first I thought they were a little pricey, but have been impressed with their durability. Quote
