chriswesnofske Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I have been wondering, if I place in a tournament and I win money, am I still eligible to fish in High School and College. I know that if you get money for doing a sport you are not eligible to participate in the sport anymore. Whether it is getting paid or winning money. But I am unsure about fishing. Does anybody know the answer? Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 I don't think it matters. Your high school and college teams will have their rules and the rules will determine if you are a "pro" and can fish on their teams. Please check with any high school or college that sponsors a fishing team to receive their input. You can find lots of schools that have fishing clubs. It may not be easy to get in touch with them so please take the following responses as your guide. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 Man I wish my high school or college had a fishing team!! In NJ that would be a long shot I bet a lot if not a majority of schools here in FL have them. I hope my son when he is old enough enjoys fishing because his daddy sure does Quote
jkarol24 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I cannot speak for high school, but for college you can win money and still be eligible (at least in the FLW, that is what I am familiar with...). The only restriction is that you are not allowed to fish more than 3 FLW events outside of the collegiate series. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 We had a similar thread going on here and the consensus from collegiate anglers posting was yes you can win money because in college it is a club sport and not NCAA sanctioned. As far as high school goes I would bet each county has their own rules. Quote
chriswesnofske Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 This is all good stuff, thanks. Quote
BassinB Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I have won money outside of collegiate tournaments and haven't had any issues on my collegiate team. Quote
KY Outdoorsman Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I wish my highschool would have put together a fishing club. EKU and UK both have outstanding fishing teams and skeet&trap. It's a shame the state doesn't fund other clubs for students who choose not to play sport Quote
