Fishhook12 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I just recently purchased a canoe, its a basic canoe. I want to add somethings to make fishing form it more effective. any ideas? Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 Well you could do lots and it also depends on what you want to do with it. It is too general of a question. You can do things like add stabilizers on your canoe so you can stand and fish, put a trolling motor, add rod holders/racks...list is endless. Quote
Christian M Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 This is my Scanoe. It has a 55lb MinnKota on the transom w/quick connect wires, I ran the wires through the gunwhales to the stern, also w/quick connects, so that the battery balances out the weight of the trolling motor. I have swivel seats that I clamp on for longer trips. & I've since added rod holders. I also have a Humminbird fishin buddy clamped to the side which I am upgrading this season. Personally I love fishing from my Scanoe. Its stable, fast, dry, & stealthy. I can get right up on the fish without spooking them & in can get this thing in places no bass boat dreams of. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 18, 2013 Super User Posted March 18, 2013 The wheels you see in the canoe are for the carrier. The bungees, fore and aft, secure the rods in place when the canoe is being transported in the back of my truck. Quote
Neonsnow78 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 love that thing Rhino....lol i have a 14ft OT Hunter(80's) i have a small mount for my fish finder, a brace in back for a trolling motor and on the other side for the transducer (fish finder) also have a rear anchor with a pulley up a ways to make it easy to pick up and cleat it off. ill take some pics next time im out(this saturday) Its balanced enough to stand and cast from, only new mod im doing this year is a new seat like Rhino's and finish up with the canoe trailer i made. What do you want to do? Me personally, I made no modifications. I just load the stuff I need and paddle away and fish. Different strokes... Quote

I'm not crazy about that seat in my avatar. It is held in place by Velcro straps. The seats in my other canoe are more sturdy, more comfortable, and securely fastened. The seats, bought at BPS are mounted onto a piece of plywood with a swivel sandwiched between. There is no comparison. Being able to freely swivel is great. I use ratchet straps to secure the seat assembly to the plastic seats of the canoe. It is a solid connection, unlike the Velcro straps. Quote
Neonsnow78 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 those look like a great investment, ill have to check those out. thanks Quote
Fishhook12 Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 what about a anchor rig? something that makes useing the ropes and anchor with less rope all over the canoe. also im looking for some good rod holders, I thought about pvc piping. Quote
Neonsnow78 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 you can always find rod holders at walmart, bass pro ect. if its just for storage you could do the milk crate and add small pieces of PVC to it, also store gear in it as well. Anchoring can be done pretty simple as well depending on what you want. Front, rear trolly setup like a kayak?. i personally just have a rear and so far like it. Although having one in the front could help with movement as well.. Quote
