Yumbrella Double Up Rig

I just bought this seeing that it won't be like chucking a cinder block like a full A rig. Anybody use one of these? I'm really hoping I get lucky and catch two fish on one cast!

It really will be different than fishing an a rig since most of the time two topwater lures are used. Also with the right gear an a rig can feel a lot lighter, using a good casting form helps as well.   I wanted to buy the double up rig just to try it out.

I have this as well....I have doubled up with Storm Swimbaits, and so far I haven't fished it much...Put the few I have, almost jerk the rod out of your hand...Smart idea, beause the big umbrella rig, is just too big for the water I fish...I call it...as my name reflects...AuburnRig...hahaha

I use it with two Rebel Magnum Pop-R's.  No doubles.

I used it for 2 spinnerbaits. No double ups yet.

Plan to use mine with 2 frogs this year, why throw one frog when you can throw two!

 

I have no idea if this will even work well but it will be fun to try.

Im surprised we havnt seen one that has more than 5 arms.

 

I mean i think back to the shaving razor wars.

Dual blades forever, then one company upped the ante and came out with 3 blades, then another company said oh yea why not 4 blades! Then the original company came out and said we cant be out done 5 blades! Yea thats right 5 blades we went there.

 

Can you even buy the 5 bladed razor anymore? ha

It's because there are rules limiting the number of hook points.  That's why they've started making 3-arm and 2-arm models, and others with just blade attractors.  The laws are really inconsistent regarding this bait, so check your state regs.

I used the Double-Up last year with two lipless cranks - that rigging was legal per last year's fishing regs. Didn't fish it enough to even catch anything on it. I was ready to try again this spring when I picked up a copy of the 2013 Tennessee fishing regs and they just changed the reg to limit any one rod to "three hooks" - and a treble hook counts as one hook. So, to use the double up with two lipless cranks this year, I'd have to remove one of the trebles on the lipless cranks. Don't think I'm going to bother with removing a treble hook, I guess I'll just fish it with two single-hook baits....

The rig is legal on all IL waters public and private UNLESS the 2 pole 2 hooks per pole restriction is in place. This restriction is implemented on 90% of our water.

 

I bought a couple rigs for use on my waters last year. 3 arms with 3 willowleaf blades with 2 arms accepting hooks. Haven't caught squat yet.

Manns is coming out with one. I seen it at the classic expo. Don't remember how many arms it had but it was a bunch.

Take 5 minutes and either cut 3 hooks off or use 3 dummy weights and you will catch more fish.

I've used it a bit with limited success. Did fairly well on schooling white bass with it one day this spring, and like someone else said they DESTROY it when they hit. The real test will be later this spring when the fish get really active.

I used this rig with couple zoom horny toads. After couple tweeks to get them running right i have had good success. No doubles but lots of action.

The double up is a riot with walking baits like a spook or sexy dawg. I fished one a lot last year with two Pop Max on it, too. Walking them in sync generated a lot of doubles, mostly post spawn fish that were bunched and on the feed.
