xxjoker122 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 In your opinion what is the best lure to target the monsters "bass over 6 pounds"? Quote
paul25 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 imo the buckeye mop jig and mini mop jig are your big fish catchers. This is the first year i've thrown them but i'm very impressed with the flare on the skirt Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 16, 2013 Super User Posted March 16, 2013 Who knows? I mean thats a really vague question... but in general, larger profile baits can produce bigger fish. Any type of lure can land a big one tho.. A big jig and trailer is always a good choice and a large topwaters like zara spooks and lunker plunkers have been known to catch a pig. Big swim baits are also known to be hawg catchers.. 1 Quote

I do target big bass with baits like 3/4 to 1 0z. football jigs and I swim them in deep water on the bottom. And I like Netbaits big 11 and 15 in. C-Mac worm.THE END Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Tiny Brush Hogs! ... and swimbaits. Also wakebaits. Big ones. Quote
Jake P Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Jig and craw Swimbaits 10”+ worms Those 3 are your best bet. Quote
xxjoker122 Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 I am just asking because a friend of mine says swim baits and i said jigs, so far jigs are winning Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted March 17, 2013 Super User Posted March 17, 2013 Throw this and hold on! hold on..to your wallet. Quote

Snakehead Whisperer Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Caught some of my largest fish while tossing tiny offerings. This winter I caught a 7lber. on a 1/32oz. jig head with a 3/4" curly tail grub while crappie fishing. There's no one answer to this question. If I had to name one big fish bait it would be 4" or larger swimbait. Have fun tossing it for 2 hours without a single bite though. Large profile crankbaits/jerkbaits tend to catch bigger fish too in my experience. Then again, I've caught 6" bluegills on 4" cranks. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted March 17, 2013 Super User Posted March 17, 2013 For me personally, it's a football jig. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 17, 2013 Super User Posted March 17, 2013 In the last 3 years in WNY, I have caught about ten fish over 6lbs. Most of them on jigs. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Although jigs generally catch bigger fish they also catch small fish. To truely target only big fish I would throw a 6"+++ swimbait 1 Quote
BrettD Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 For me its either a soft plastic swimbait or a topwater popper. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 My PB, 10lb came on a simple green/white Terminator spinnerbait. Almost all of my over 5lb fish have come on spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and rattletraps. Quote
38 Super Fan Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 In addition to the suggestions so far, I'll throw in a buzzbait. It will catch some dinks for sure, but over half of the bass that I've caught that were 5 or over have come on a buzzbait. Quote
BassinBoy Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 No love for top water frogs!? For me... the frog is my best quality fish catcher and has produced some of the biggest fish I've caught most CONSISTENTLY. That's the key with the frog for me, it COSISTENTLY CATCHES quality fish (over 3 pounds) Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 17, 2013 Super User Posted March 17, 2013 Most of the bigger fish I catch are on a heavy jig but any lure can catch them. My best 5 fish limit were caught on a Zoom horny toad. Allen Quote
The Young Gun Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Spinnerbaits have always landed me the biggest ones. And big crankbaits. Or musky baits. Quote
