bassguytom Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I just received my HB 998 HD SI. I am going to mount it the weekend. Does anyone have any good initial settings to start out with? I'm sure you guys that have used these units have some better than factory settings to start out with. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get started scanning with this thing! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 16, 2013 Super User Posted March 16, 2013 The most important thing is the correct mounting of the SI transducer. Start with the factory default settings. Choose a SI color that you can see the best according to the ambient light- I change during the day. Use the Sensitivity setting like a screen brightness control-adjust as depth and bottom hardness changes. Use the Enhance Sharpness setting to highlight fish. For Imaging, use a screen scroll speed setting that is close to the GPS speed. When you see something interesting, push the 4-way button to stop the screen from scrolling and make adjustments to improve the image if needed. READ the manual, and then READ the manual. Quote
sarcazmo Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 The manual is key. I've read it a couple times and am still overwhelmed. Also wayne p is a huge fountain of knowledge. Quote
