When it comes to baitcasters, I'm partial to a particular brand, but purchasing extra spools for them is an effort in futility.  I ended up purchasing a couple of junk reels off of fleabay just for the spools.  Do any of you carry spare spools for the times you want to switch line types or sizes or don't have the time to spend picking our a nasty birdsnest?  Where do you get yours?

Nope......with one exception.  An Internet "friend" cleaned and tuned a few reels for me.  When the Type R came back, the original spool (GIGAS) had been replaced with a spool (not a GIGAS) off another reel.  Have had a spare spool for that reel ever since I bought another GIGAS spool for it.

EDIT:  Oops.  Forgot.  Now have a spare spool for one of my Sols as I put a Presso spool in one for light lures.

Nope. I carry spare reels - attached to rods.

X3.  Got to quit buying, tho.  Not only can't carry more than about a third of them with me, but the closet is full....and that is without reels on several of the rods.

I didn't buy it as spare but, I bought a 200a calais spool to replace one for a 200asv.

Lord no, I don't carry spare spools. I have a hard enough time keeping things straight with tape, labels, and magic marker. If I added spare spools in the mix, I'd add an extra 25 pounds in the boat, and is never be able to find the one I was looking for.

I am a non-boater and tried the spare spool thing last year.  It took alot more time than I thought to swap it out when I wanted to try something different.  The only time it came in handy was when I backlashed bad in one tournament.  I messed with it for a few minutes, gave up and replaced the spool and was back fishing in no time.

This year I am going to forego the backup spool for a backup reel already spooled.

I do carry spare spools of line just in case my casting abilities fail and I get a "purdy" birds nest!  :wink2:

I have been looking into it recently. Would like to keep a couple with various line sizes, but I've had trouble finding extras.

i cant "like" this comment enough. I have a spare Revo S spool for my Revo S's, but i have yet to need it or use it. If i get a nasty backlash, i just put that combo back in the rod storage and deal with it at a later date.

I have 2 spinning combos, and i have a spare spool for each. Both main spools are fluoro, and the spares have braid and mono. I switch them frequently.

All of my main lines are PE on which I tie various monofilament leaders which are easy to switch on the go.

I can't imagine it's worth the hassle unless you are content on carrying as little as possible i guess. i switch rods/reels not spools.

As others have noted no spare spools but I do carry additional spools of line just in case. Doing an extensive line testing/evaluation project this year. If I find a lineto be far superior I am going to look at buying bulk spools of said line.

I have a spare spool for my Chronarch D and thought it would be useful but find a need. I just pick up another od if I need lighter or heavier line.

It is super hard to find spools, so I will just carry a few extra reels with me.  I am a co-angler so having a couple of extra reels in the bag takes up much less space.

I do not. To me it takes too much time to unstrung, remove the spool, replace the spool, restring, and re-tie. I'd much rather just have another rod there. Switching spools on the water also opens up the risk of dropping a spool, and believe me, that is NOT good news. More so if it slips over the side... I do know that some enthusiast reels, such as the Megabass Zonda Hedgehog Custom, come with both a shallow and deep spool.
