Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 Wow, another lake down for repairs? They are draining Meadowgrounds Lake in Fulton County due to a faulty dam and they just re-filled Opossum Lake in Cumberland County after fixing the dam. Quote

I have been told almost every lake dam in pa needs repairs so I see this happening more Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 If they are going to refill/restock them, honestly I have no problem with that. The growth boom that comes from restocking a lake can be fantastic if done properly. You can see some truly great bass growth in a 5 year period if the forage base is re-established before too many predator fish are introduced. I'm really hoping Opossum returns to where it once was. It had some BIG musky and LMB in it. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted March 14, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 14, 2013 The level of Canoe Creek is pretty low.If you are at the launch below the swimming area, there isn't any water that you could get a boat in until way up almost the swimming area. All three boat ramps have signs saying that they are closed(not that you could use them anyway).LOL I will be taking a fit waiting for it to fill up.Oh I almost forgot what water there is has ice on it of some sort. basser89 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 If most of the dams are in need of repair, I hope the state has learned a thing or 2 from Opossum and what's happened at Meadow Grounds so far. I'd hate to see all the lakes take as long to be refilled as Opossum. SPEED, I heard there were some monsters in there. I hope it makes it back to that status. Seeing that place drained, it looks like it'll be fun to fish. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted March 14, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 14, 2013 It doesn't look like they are doing any work on the dam at Canoe Creek. For you guys that know the lake, they buried some semi-flexable blue pipe along side of the sunken road bed in front of the stumps at the upper end of the lake. You could see someone had been running trucks on the road bed.Who knows what else they are doing. With as long as that old road bed has been there, it would take some serious balls to drive a truck across there. That upper end gets so much silt from the creek, I can't imagine the base under that road is stable. LOL Sean, I found out where they put the muskies from Opossum. Quote
skeet8 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 With the rain today, I decided to take a road trip and check out Canoe Creek and Raystown Lake. WOW!!!,Canoe is about 8-10 feet low! I just had to see it. There was to be a TMO tournament there April 6. I don't think that will happen unless we all bank fish. As for Raystown, It really looked good and green, no ice. We stopped at Weavers Falls, James Creek, and Aitch. There were 2 boats at Weavers and 0 at the others. I forgot the thermometer so i didn' get the temps. Quote

buzzbait4me Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Hey Guys, Im going to be fishing Canoe Creek for the first time ever tomorrow. I have never been to the lake so I don't have a clue about it and how/where to fish. Can some of you guys that fish this lake get me going in the right direction? Thanks Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted August 8, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2013 Hi Buzzbait, well I fish Canoe Creek quite abit so I'll try to help. This time of year the lake is really weedy,so be ready to clean your trolling motor prop alot.(oh by the way it's trolling motor only)Fish around the weeds on the surface and fish submerged weed lines, which are all over. The lake is mostly shallow, but is deeper at the breast of the dam(around 25 ft.) I fish T-rigged soft plastic's,on 8lb. test line,no troubles.I was over there this morning and caught 12 largemouth, including a 6 lb.'er.Canoe Creek is a trophy bass lake,so it's 15 in. minimum.I hope this helps some,Good Luck! Let us know how you do. Quote
buzzbait4me Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hey thanks for the help. Well i only was able to fish for around 3 hours because the trolling motor battery was getting low but i was able to land 6 bass. Most of them came down by the stump field in the weeds. The largest bass was just a tad over 15 inches. Fish were caught on weightless senkos. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted August 10, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 10, 2013 Glad you caught some fish Buzzbait.Canoe Creek is a great little lake. Thanks for the update. Quote
