MrPeanut Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 one of the techniques I want to get more comfortable with this year is drop shotting...as I was strining up the rods for the summer I came to a question though... where do you guys tend to put the leader under the hook when putting the rod back down for storage / moving to a new spot? do you put the hook in the hook keeper and just wrap the extra line around the handle? Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 I wrap a hairband around the rear grip, and slip the sinker underneath. 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I wrap a hairband around the rear grip, and slip the sinker underneath. X2 If I don't, I'll cut at the swivel above the hook that I've used to prevent line twist. There are a couple of things I'll be trying out this season, one is the use of two slip bobber knots with the hook between them and not tied to the line, the other is the SpinShot set-up. With the first option, you can just slide the knots and hook down to the sinker and use the hook keeper. Another thing I think I'm going to like about that rigging is the ability to quickly change the distance from hook to weight. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 My drop shot rod currently doesnt have a hook holder at the bottom. I hook it on an eye and then a lure wrap. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 I use a small strip of Velcro and situate it where the weight lands along the rod's handle. Quote
J_Pearson Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 A rubberband/ hair band like J Francho is as close to perfect as I've gotten.JP Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 They also sell keepers which will allow you to hook the weight and then tighten it up. The rubber band works well. My rod has an open keeper. This allows me to hold the weight and tighten up as usual. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 15, 2013 Super User Posted March 15, 2013 Rubber bands break down real quick in the sun and heat. When it's cold, they lose their elasticity. Hairbands don't suffer either, and last you a whole season. 1 Quote
airborne_angler Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I run the sinker through the eye closest to the reel and then run the hook through the eye of the sinker Quote
ripinthem Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Yeah, I just put my hook through the keeper, wrap the sinker around the rod a few times, then put the sinker eye over the hook point... Quote
loodkop Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I use the quick grip sinkers and just take it of and put it in my pocket. It only takes a second to re rig it when I need to. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 15, 2013 Super User Posted March 15, 2013 Best way is with hair bands young girls use for pony tails. I bought a bag and they work great. Give 'em a try. You will have fun going into the girl's hair products store in the mall. Just don't wear pink. Quote
MrPeanut Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 lol, I'm sure I won't get any strange looks when asking where the hair ties are located Quote
