RDP1973 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I am new to bass fishing, but i have access to a farm pond and wanted to know what are good baits to try out? Quote
tommiller76 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 There are several baits that are perfectly suited for pond fishing but they depend on depth, structure and cover of the pond. If its on the shallower side say about 6 feet deep at its deepest then I would suggest using light weight spinnerbaits in the 1/8oz range. Other good baits would be shallow running crankbaits and jerkbaits. I fish a local pond in my area quite often and have tons of success on weightless worms and finesse jigs with plastic trailers. The possibilities are endless but these are some fairly inexpensive lures lures that I've have plenty of luck fishing in ponds. If you know some of the specifics of your pond like how deep, what if any vegetation there is and what type of structure there is [rocks, logs, stumps, etc,] let me know and I will be able to be a little more detailed in what suggestions to offer. Good luck and be safe out there...! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 Early season, a chatter bait or a spinnerbait will be a good search method. If you find fish, a senko will get them. 1 Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 weightless t-rigged berkley red shad shakey worms. baby rage tail craws weightless. you can fish them on the bottom, swim them in the water, or fish them as a top water. rage tail toads and rage tail lizards are also killer in ponds. zoom lizards are good too. solid white spinner bait with a red belly on the head. solid white buzz bait. dumfish Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Springtime: Use spinning gear buy a white Booyah 3/16 oz. spinnerbait, swap out the small gold willow leaf blade with 1 size larger. Use a split tail trailer ( I like the Ricky Clunn brand @ BPS ). For a second bait buy a 1/8 oz. chatterbait ( Blk./Blu. ), with a small Yum craw worm ( Blk./Blu) for the trailer. Run the spinnerbait on the retrieve, jig or retrieve the chatterbait. Good Luck ! Have Fun. Quote
via Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 i say try fishing a 5in yamamoto senko texas rig or wacky rig http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12401-senko-faq-%C2%A0look-here-first/ you can learn more on how to fish it with the link above. because spawn is starting, i recommend you to throw a suspending jerkbait. this bait works all year long, but spring is the time when this bait shine the most for me. Nebasska Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Rapala Countdown work good because you can find out how deep it is by counting down and fish at the depth you want size 5 or 7 work nice Quote

This. Throw it in and let is sink. Watch your line. If they are in there, you will see that line move and you just cross their eyes! Caught fish in the dead of winter like this. Quote
Basscook Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I miss the little farm pond I use to fish. Pulled my biggest bass ever out'a there. I always used plastics, Bommer A's, Rattle-Trap's and Spinners. Truth is, a well stocked farm pond in my opinion is the absolute best place to learn and gain confidence with any bait you want to master. I am simi-new to this myself. In a farm pond, I have learned to use a baitcaster, Rattle Traps, Jigs, and Spinners. Now I can use them with the same confidence just about anywhere I fish. I just gotta find me another small pond. Super User Felix77 Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 Early season, a chatter bait or a spinnerbait will be a good search method. If you find fish, a senko will get them. x2... and if the senko doesn't get them a weightless finesse worm will. This is my 1-2-3 approach to a lake. Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I always had succes using Storm Swim shads on little farm ponds I used to fish. You can kinda fish them anyway you want! Quote
wademaster1 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Cranks, spinners, and soft plastics. Topwater too has its time and place. Some ponds like that have some absolute HOGS in them. Good luck. Quote
BigBassBarry Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I fish a jerk bait in 6-8 foot of water I caught 8 today in my little 2 acre pond. biggest one was 2 lbs. most of them were just a little bigger than my jerk bait. LOL Quote
Amarley Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Trick worms, lizards, spinnerbaits, shallow cranks, paddle tail soft plastic swim baits. I've had the most success with these in ponds. Jigs work from time to time, too. Quote
