Brendan Duffy Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I am absolutely slaying bass on these this spring! Anyone having the same results? As soon as I flutter the bait by a rock or boulder, it gets crushed. Its at the point where each retrieve that doesnt yield a fish leaves me surprised. ;D Quote
Jacob Robinson Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Yea, these baits are great. I havent lost too many fish on them either. Which is always a plus! Quote
tnbassfisher Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Just added these to my tackle this spring. I've had good results so far, but not quite as good as you seem to be having. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted April 18, 2010 Super User Posted April 18, 2010 I've been fishing them a lot this year. I've caught 91 fish so far this season...72 of them were on Red Eye Shads in 1/4 oz. I've caught bass, rainbow trout, and crappie on them, and even had an 8" bluegill hit one (although I don't know what he expected to do with it when he caught it!). Quote
florida strain Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 what colors have you guys been using? Quote
hmongkidBee Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 what? Man I haven't caught a bass on my red eye shad so far this year especially during this time. The same time last year I was getting bass to hit it like crazy, but this year, it's completely different. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted April 18, 2010 Super User Posted April 18, 2010 what colors have you guys been using? "Chartreuse Baitfish" and "Sexy Ghost Minnow". I mostly use the Ghost Minnow in clear water/daytime, and the Chartreuse Baitfish in dingier water or cloudy/low light conditions...but it sometimes seems the fish don't care which color they hit... bear7625 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Chartreuse Sexy Shad and Sexy Sunfish. 8-) Quote

Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted April 18, 2010 Super User Posted April 18, 2010 i think they are ALOT better than rattle traps . the red eye shad has much better action (a tighter wobble !!!). plus the red eye shad is deadly with it's flutting fall when you stop your retrieve but keep the slack out of the line . i only use the 3/4 oz. red eye's and once in awhile throw the 1/2 oz. adclem Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Been using the Orange Craw with great success. Later, Quote
kikstand454 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 other than the fact the paint falls off them like nobodys business... yes... they are way better than the original rattle trap. i think so anyway. i feel the action and as said before.. the fall... is alot more attractive. besides the hooks on a redeye are light years better than the hooks on an original trap. jb_adams Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I must be reeling mine in too fast and not using the "flutter fall" often enough. I was on feeding bass yesterday in gin clear water up to 15ft. I know the little buggers were there feeding because they looked like a pack of sharks. I caught a few on a LC Pointer and a wake bait. Swimbait, plastics, crankbaits, jig, and the Red Eye shad wouldn't get their attention. They wanted it fast (really fast) or really slow and lifelike. They would swim up to a bait really fast and then hit the brakes before the strike. They could tell it was fake. So are you guys that are sleighing them retrieving it really slow, yo-yo style (rip-flutter), or what? Quote

Gamec0cks5 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I started coating mine with clear finger nail polish, It really helps with the chrome baits. Quote
kikstand454 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I started coating mine with clear finger nail polish, It really helps with the chrome baits. good idea. ill try that. my paint problems have not been limited to the chrome colors as others have stated on other threads. i had a red one that the paint came off and a shad one too. and of course the sexy shad chrome. id be ticked but then i got some xcaliburs this winter and the first time out the eyes fell off. next time out... the other lures eyes fell off. in grass. the first one didnt even catch a fish..not even a bite.. the second one two undersized crappie and a dink bass. i wonder what im doing to them. lol Quote
BassThumb Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 are tehse that much better than RatLTrap? They both have their place. I find the Red Eye to be a little more aggressive, because they're a little faster and more likely to get hung on weeds and ripped free. They're very useful for ripping cranks around weeds. Quote

fooman Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I'm a big lip-less crankbait fan and for some reason I can not buy a fish off a Red Eye.. I read on here and other forums how people catch a ton of fish on the Red Eyes but as soon as I tie one on I cant catch anything.. I can whack them all day long on Hardcore Drums ,Rat-l-traps,Cordells and pretty much every other lip-less but for some reason not on Red Eyes..I cant figure it out..its frustrating Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 20, 2010 Super User Posted April 20, 2010 All crankbaits have a common characteristic: some have the mojo, others do not. Raul says 1 in 10, that might be high! Rather than fishing what you have, buy another or two and give them a try. 8-) Quote

Still no luck, and everytime I read 1 of these threads about how great the Red Eyes are it makes me even more determined to go out and sling them some more.. Quote

Still no luck, and everytime I read 1 of these threads about how great the Red Eyes are it makes me even more determined to go out and sling them some more.. Same for me with bass jigs. I had a tackle box full of jigs till I figured out why the jigs I had were bad, what worked, how to retreive, etc. Took me a year and now I have a jig tied on all the time. Sometimes the cheaper Cordells and Rat-L-Traps are what they want. Sometimes it's a Lucky Craft, sometimes a Spro, sometimes, the Red Eye. I do like the shimy on the fall. Just haven't figured it out yet myself. Crankbaits are on my list of "figure out". I have a ton of good crankbaits but I either reel too fast or not fast enough. Know that you are not alone on the Red Eye. Quote
