CountBassula Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I have a little pond next to my work. I've walked the edge of it yesterday looking for bass beds, but only found what looks like one (see pic attached, sandy spot next to a white pipe). I see a ton of small fish there, and turtles too, but no bass activity. I fished there once before with a senko and didn't catch squat! I wonder if I should disregard this spot or give it another try... So, other than bass beds, what are other signs of the desirable fish being in the water, short of catching one :-) Quote
BrettD Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I would fish the edge of the grass or just outside of it on the side of the pond that the wind is blowing on to. There is most likely a drop off at the edge of the grass. Looks like a nice pond that would hold some decent fish. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 12, 2013 Super User Posted March 12, 2013 If they are on their beds they will be hard to catch. You need to wear your poloraized sunglasses and walk around the pond very slowly looking for any beds. You can also try to notice any bass just sitting there and not moving. They are usually the males after the females have left the nest. The bass guarding the beds will also swim around the beds in a circle. So look for bass "making the rounds." You know you have to aggravate them into hitting your bait. Lizards, tubes, shaky head trick worms, creature baits can all aggravate the bass into taking the bait into their mouths to kill it or remove it from the bed. The problem you face is that the beds may be off the bank or in grass a little deeper than you can see into the water. Give it a try and let us know what you find out. Quote
fstr385 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Im starting to find some unoccupied beds lately. I noticed in my canal other fish making similar beds too. Quote

That's exactly what I did, walked around with double polarized super cool shades and looked for beds. The first pic is taken through the glasses too :-) Didn't see any bass, and only one bed... Quote
MrPerfect Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 The spawn seemed to come really early last year, I saw my first bass bed this past week, and I also didn't see any fish on it. Anyone else experiencing this? Or did I miss the spawn... Quote
JellyMan Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I will almost guarantee you there are a lot of bass in there. Most likely a lot of small ones and some 2-4 lbers. Maybe a 6-7lber or 2 also. Slow roll brush hogs in there. Try Zoom Ultra Vibe worms also. Quote
gar-tracker Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Hard too fish beds from the bank. Signed: Mr. MOTO Quote
vegas679 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I can usually tell if there are fish in a certain place if I see other people fishing it. Your not the first one to notice that pond, especially if it's public. They are there for a reason. I've also been told by someone much wiser than myself, that if there is water, there is fish. Quote
808bass Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 It looks like the pond is outside of a commercial building or something. I haven't had much luck fishing those here in the Tampa area. Quote
