Is it just me or has the shimano posse been laying low? It seems there are far more Abu guys now. I remember when it was nothing but the posse ganging up bashing te few Abu guys and now it seems like it's mostly Abu and the shimano guys are keeping quiet.......

Well, I've asked The Posse to stay away from threads on other brands.

So, Shimano is still the overwelming choice for "what is the best" threads

and our unscientific polls. I've noticed a trend towards Lew's. They don't

reallly have an adequate track record yet, but if they hold up over time.

Lew's could be a contender. What disappoints me is the lack of interest in

Pinnacle. Man, their relatively new line of both rods and reels is absoluting

amazing!

I'm currently running Pfleuger, Quantum and Shimano reels ~

I fish both as well. Guess I'm a fence sitter. I even have a 300HL Lexa on one of my big bait rods. LOL

Never tried the Pinnacle reels, but the rods I have handled have been well crafted and were very sensitive especially at their price point.

I own 11 Shimano Rod/Reel combos. But I have nothing bad to say about any other line of rods or reels. Most of the stuff out now is quality gear. It really boils down to a preference thing.

I own both abu and Shimano, and some others depending on what species I am chasing. I keep looking at the Pinnacles but just don't need anymore reels right now. But I keep looking!

Shimano fan here, but rapidly turning into a Daiwa fan. Lexa reels in particular. Baitmonkey forced my finger to click "buy", then Paypal - several clicks there - all for a Lexa 2000 spinning reel. I couldn't believe it.

Just spooled it up yesterday, put it on my 6'3" Compre. Amazingly smooth reel. I have yet to do a side-by-side with my Stradic FI, but right now, the Lexa has me very impressed.

From this point on, I must become brand-agnostic. For sanity's sake.

And put my credit cards in the freezer. And cut off all ties with bassresource.com, bass pro, etc.

I have eight Shimano, and twice as many Daiwa, and pepper in some Pinnacle and even a Quantum.

I use mainly shimano for my heavy musky rods and mgx's and premiers for my bass stuff. I even have a revo toro on one of my musky rods. That being said I really like the shimanos, a lot. The curado 300 ej on my jerk bait rod might be one of the best casting reels I have ever used. Love it. I don't think bass stuff (at least where I am) requires "workhorse" type reels. I pounded the crap out of my mgx last year with no issues other than occasional lazy thumb bar return. The premier has no notches on it's belt yet. I like the revo line, I like the specs and options but I still question the durability until I have some more logged time. My shimanos all get beat, hard. Casting baits normally 3-16oz. They all show no signs of slowing down. From my perspective it's easy to fall in love with the revo line especially if you shop around, I think that has a lot to do with people leaning towards abu. I think my premier came over lubed, I'm going to tear it down and re lube. It feels a little "thick" when I crank.

I own a pfleuger president spinning, love it. Abu SX 3rd gen, love it. Lews speed spool, love it. Pro qualifier, same as the others. I also beleive most reels that are made now are high quality. The only thing that made me not like quantum is I have a rod and reel from them and it's terrible. I also held the EXO and the way they made a reel which costs so much is poor in my opinion. I have not however tried any of there other reels except for those two, so I can't declare that I don't like quantum yet.

Which reels do you like from quantum? I might have to try some out. Or at least go to BPS and hold some.

I quietly use all 15 Shimano reels, 10 curados and 5 stradics. All are over 7 years old. All mounted on St.Croix rods. I guess I'm too old to let the rod/reel monkey chase me around.

I dont know about you guys but im not sinking $100+ on a pinnacle reel when I can get a daiwa lexa for $109 shipped. Pinnacle came out of the gate too late with too high of a price point.

Ya cant even look at them right now because they have a database file size error.

Reels - Shimano - 1 Chronarch, 4 Curados, 3 Citicas, Stradic, Sienna, then add in 2 BPS PQ, Prolite, 1 BPS Extreme and a Daiwa.  Sold off my only Abu Garcias last week.

I'm not a "fanatic" and don't have problems with other brands, like jb stated...personal preference.  That said, I'm starting to change over most of my rods to the Compre/Crucial Lines.  I just like how they feel over the other rods I own.

I love variety and own Shimano, ABU, Daiwa, and a couple BPS reels. My personal favorite reel is a tuned up curado E. It hasnt been trouble free; (one of the drag discs inexplicably started breaking down) but I love the way it casts.

I just buy things to try them and I can never really stick with one brand because they don't always have something new that I want. I like Pflueger spinning reels but I also like some of the Shimano ones too. I like Lew's casting reels a lot but they are fairly new to me.

I also did buy a Pinnacle Optimus XLT a few months back to try too. It seems pretty decent but I paid more for it than the Lew's tp and it's not as smooth and doesn't have as good of a fit and finish when compared to the Lew's. I haven't really given it a good workout yet so I don't know how it performs. It's certainly much better than the other pinnacle equipment I've seen in the past and overall I think it might end up being pretty good. We'll see though.

I'm a sucker for a good deal too....so if I see a reel at half price and it looks interesing, I'll probably get it no matter who makes it (for the most part).

Tried lews didnt like it, went back to shimano, never had an issue with them, my next caster may be a revo simply because the price/features/realability are right.
