lmoore Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 1997 Champion 190DC with a 200 Johnson. Very nice seller, we're actually planning to go fishing together this summer sometime! Took a long time to find the right boat for me but I'm happy I waited. Big thanks to all the help from those here who answered questions along the way. As a bonus, he made me a good deal on the boat and I used the extra to buy an SI unit for the console! 1 Quote
lmoore Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 I spent all day cleaning it up and organizing, but never thought to take pictures! I'll get some tomorrow hopefully Quote
lmoore Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Missed the important one. Sorry I had to crop them funny, couldn't get them to attach otherwise. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 I can't tell is that a Venom? I had a Cajun with a 200 Venom. Quote
lmoore Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 It is a Venom. How'd you like yours? Any idea where I can get a factory manual for it? 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 Good luck and best wishes. May you make many good memories with her. 1 Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 While you are in the cleaning up process, turn the transducer around on the home made trolling motor bracket. It is mounted backwards. Quote

Lol, I noticed that too. He rigged that up because he thought having the actual trolling motor bracket made the GPS confusing (700 series, must have internal GPS instead of a puck?) when you were manuevering with the trolling motor. I'm thinking I might just buy the actual trolling motor mounted transducer. Quote
lmoore Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Also for Wayne, Has Humminbird developed an update to allow Ethernet connection on the Legacy models? The unit on the bow is a 798c SI, and my unit at the console is a 997c SI. Is interlink my only option for connecting the 2 units, with only GPS data being shared? If I would upgrade the trolling motor tranducer to an actual trolling motor mount, is it worth it to get the full side imaging transducer, or should I just get a trolling motor mount adapter for the compact transducer in the picture? Super User slonezp Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 The 798 is not ethernet capable UNLESS it's an HD model Quote

A unit that does not have an Ethernet port cannot be updated to have one. It is hardware that is supported by software. INTERLINK is the only intercommunication connection your units can use. You can use two transducers that are suitable for the trolling motor. The XTM 9 SI 180 T which is the Compact Puck or you can use the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T which is the standard one for the larger display models of SI units. The HDSI is longer and has longer SI crystals--that produces a thinner SI pulse and gives sharper images. The HDSI will not give the 798 the 800 kHz capability though. Both of those have the extra internal shielding to combat possible RFI from the trolling motor, The transom Compact SI transducer does not have that shielding. Quote

I'm thinking I might just buy the actual trolling motor mounted transducer. The 798c SI Combo has an external GPS antenna. The 798ci SI Combo has an internal GPS antenna. I have the 798ci SI Combo. The ( i ) in the model number means internal GPS antenna. No ( i )= no internal GPS antenna. Additionally the sonar transducer has nothing to do with the GPS function. They are separate systems. They do work together to establish position of you save a waypoint based on a sonar return, but the actual waypoint is only GPS data. Quote
lmoore Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Thanks for the help, I never thought to look if it had a port (duh). It's the ci model si internal GPS antenna. I think ill replace the homemade mount with the correct transducer when I order the interlink. Quote

You need to learn how to do updates so both units have somewhat current software so the INTERLINK will work. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 15, 2013 Super User Posted March 15, 2013 The larger one is the SI Compact Puck: This one is the HDSI with a Transducer Shield and Saver TM-HDsi mount: Quote
lmoore Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 I'll look into the software update process. Being 24, the computer part doesn't scare me too much Quote
