zwhiten12 Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 This is exactly why people hate Shimano Owners and why people get so ticked and leave this board. At no time did he ask about a Shimano. To the OP, I own both. Love em both but I prefer the S. I wish it had EVA grips and came in different ratios but I like the S better. I don't like or use mag breaks. I'd rather save the extra for jigs! That's exactly what I'm sayin! I would be set if the s would just come in a variety of ratios! Quote

38 Super Fan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Agreed. Every thread about Abu stuff always has at least one annoying person that just has to pimp Shimano stuff. It's absolutely ridiculous and getting very tiresome. Yep, I'm so sick of the hype I refuse to buy anything Shimano. I can't believe people can be so d**n obsessive over a brand of fishing gear. I won't refuse to buy a product because of its pro staff or followers though. Quote
tbone1993 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Night and Day enough said. Go with the STX and never regret spending money on a great reel as long as you keep them clean they will last Quote
BassinB Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I own both, they are both fantastic reels in their MSRP price points. The stx is worth the extra $ IMO because of the features. Durability wise I think they are both high quality and with the proper care you can expect many years of hard fishing from them no problem. If the guy asked if he should buy a shimano, or even used the word shimano in his OP then I would answer with something relating to shimano. That however is clearly not the case. Why doesn't this forum have a sub-forum just for all the shimano guys to go and talk about how fantastic their equipment is? I think we would all get more laughs and then it could be separated from the actual useful information on the board. win-win. 2 Quote
Goose21 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I own a revo S, Stx gen 3 and two MGX's. All honesty I've been dissapointed with my S, I think it needs a good cleaning. The stx is great, I have it on my heavy jig/t-rig rod, this reel is the *****. The MGX is the finest reel I have ever owned, but lacks a little power compared to my stx. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 The features of the STX over the S are well worth the extra cost IF the added features are imoprtant to you. The S is a fine work horse reel. Quote
JellyMan Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I was actually looking at this thread earlier when doing a little research. I bought an S a week ago but did not do much research. I am a Abu noob. First Abu reel. I did some research and decided to take back my S and get the STX. I have not used either yet! I liked the additional bearings and the Dual Braking System in the STX. Well worth a little extra doe'age. Quote

TNBassin' Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I fished with mine extensively yesterday again, and even though I like my STX a tad more, there's just no denying that the S is an amazing reel. The casting distance is just crazy, and it's smooth as can be. When the wind picked up, fine tuning the STX with the mag brakes was invaluable and allowed me to throw baits I would've had a hard time throwing with my S. You really can't go wrong with either, but the STX is more versatile. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 15, 2013 Super User Posted March 15, 2013 I was playing with my STX yesterday haven't been able to fish it yet but just practiced flipping and pitching with it on my new villain rod. Just messing around in the yard I loved it super smooth and light. I'm hoping to fish with it tonight or this weekend but the weather isn't looking to promising. Quote
fowlskies Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Whoa! Just read this thread and some people either don't have enough worries in life or have too many and its coming out over shimano vs abu. Un-bind your panties, jeez. But thanks for giving me a good laugh over the pettiness of it all, I needed a break from all these d@mn taxes, come on April 15th! 1 Quote
leadslinger Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I've been using the S, SX, and STX (gen2) for over a year now and pleased with all 3 reels. The STX does feel a bit smoother, but all perform nicely. No backlash issues on any of the models for me. I've left the brake settings kind of on medium, and never change them. No issues, like 'em all. The $$$ is personal choice. The SX is a happy medium, and looks the coolest (IMHO). Quote
JellyMan Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Man, reading through this thread, I cant wait. I've been a BPS reel guy for years. I just bought a new Mojo Bass rod and I have my STX arriving on Tuesday along with some other goodies from TW. Sadly, I still have a solid month before the bite will be on here in Vermont. After this summer, I am back in Florida for good. Quote
