Wondering how this has worked for people...I may download this as I have heard that it will save me from using a GPS system separate from my phone or fishfinder....any one have it?  Particularly, does it have J. Percy Priest Lake or Old Hickory Lake in Nashville on it?

Yes, it has them, and more.  I have used it for just a month now and love it.  Get the additional add-on "Map Option" for extra features it's more than worth it.

Here is a link to Navionics Mobile http://www.navionics.com/en/mobile-pc-app  Click on North America, then click on the left box for "Marine & Lakes: USA", then select your state and it will list the coverage.

Thanks to you for the great info on how to check on a state...I had not found that!  So can you mark exact spots and save them just like on a GPS device?

Yes, look in "Help" for "GPS", "Save GPS Position" for directions. It's easy to do.

The app is great. It's the same topographical information you would get if you bought a stand alone unit. You can save spots, set waypoints, check speed, and much more. The best part is you get the updates right in the AppStore for free.

The price is right; I just paid over $100.00 for Navionics Navplanner2 which is similar but has less capabilities than Navionics Mobile for $14.99; even if you get the add on Map Option ($5.00 I think) it still makes it a very good deal in anyone's book.

This past weekend I did a side-by-side comparison between my Garmin CXS76, the Lowrance in the boat, and the Navionics Mobile on a iphone 5; the tracks between the three were the same.  I did have to run the iphone on a charger cable because I was out for some 10+ hrs, but the iphone was easier to use and got more use among the three.

i have it also & am super impressed. it's virtually the same info as the card for my 1198.  great quality & value at a fraction of the cost.  i use my phone to scout out productive spots while at the house & leave the card in the boat.  i tried to do this on my mac, but had one hell of a time trying to download & update it.  the phone app is the way to go.

i was at the bar talking to a buddy about possible hotspots while looking at them on the phone.  that's worth $15 in my opinion.

It's actually a $5.00 add-on with features that is well worth it.

Is this ad on the 'nav module' upgrade?  This is the only one that's available to purchase in the ap for me except for all the foreign country maps.

Yes, it's the only "Add-On" they have right now, I think it was $4.99 at the Apple Store.  If Navionics puts out a S/W update to either the main package or the option package, Iphone will notify you that it's available; you can then download the update with the push of a button through the iphone store for free.  It's painless.

I love it. Had it for a couple of years now. Use it in both fresh and saltwater. Normally use it through the iPad for the bigger screen when I'm in saltwater. Keep the phone handy for a backup. Pretty darn accurate. Worthwhile purchase.

Hey Guys,

I just downloaded this app for my new iphone and I have a question. How do you actually add a waypoint to the lake map. I have been looking at spots that I would like to fish but I'm not sure how to add the waypoint so I can go to it on the water. Can anyone help me learn how to use this app?

Thanks

I have navionics for android. Its well worth the price. I bought it for $0.99 on sale, but it is well worth the $10.

I have a cig lighter adapter and USB cord for my phone, I then mounted a holder for my phone on the dash. Now I can hook my phone up and not wear down the battery while using it as mapping software. If you do not do it that way, make sure you only turn it on to check something and then close the app. It drains about 2% of my battery per minute on my galaxy s3 if it is not hooked up.

To add a waypoint on android you drag the crosshairs to wherever you want and hit the "?" icon next to it. Then there is an option to ad it to favorites. Not sure if it is the same on IOS, but it has to be close.

Use the Route function.  See "Help" "Route" for details.  Navionics needs to work on waypoint functions as it's very difficult to do individual waypoints to mark fishing spots.  It's easier to just do a route from your ramp to a fishing spot using "Manual Route"; zoom in on the map to your ramp location, tap the screen for your waypoints to your spot then tap "Go", then tap "Route", "Stop" this saves your route in "My Route Archive".   Be sure to edit your waypoints the way you want before tapping "GO" .  One thing that I find frustrating is Navionice starts a route from your current GPS location even when you have "Start From GPS" turned off.

EDIT: Forget what I said above, I like Kevin's way better.  You can find and edit your markers in "Menu" "Archive". But you can't hide them as far as I can see at this point, so your map could get very crowded.

I have the NavionicsPC App on my computer. I do the waypoint thing on my computer and have it set to sync with my other devices. Whatever I do on my computer shows up on my phone and tablet.

Hi Wayne, Is that Nav Planner 2?

Hi Wayne, Is that Nav Planner 2?

No, it is HumminbirdPC like I stated. It was included with the purchase of a Navionics software card for sonar units.

It has been discontinued since I got it, but is still supported.

I don't know if that will be part of the future Navionics products or not.

The Web App is their replacement for it. That is viewable by going to their web site and clicking on Products, then Web App. It contains most of their current data including an extra mapping layer is generated by users uploading their recordings to produce their own maps with HD contours where there are Navionics errors, less detail, or no data at all.

Data applied to the Web App is updateable to mobile devices, but I don't know if it is or will be a shareable individual planning function. I think it may be when the popular Sonar Charts feature gets caught up with all the data being processed since that program is so new.

Visit the Navionics site for more details.

additional note: a Navionics rep visits this site occasionally and may have more input about what is ongoing.

Make sure you are not "editing map" but are "adding favorites". That is the way it is on android. Edit map will put it on community layer for everyone to see, it is for adding community spots and hazards. Adding favorites is just for you.

Wayne is spot on to date. I see all the focus currently on caught up with SonarCharts as the feature seems to have been met with open arms to the boating/angling public.

I'd imagine more user-friendly features to come with in the future.
