I am a economically challenged angler trying to get the most bang for my fishing buck.  I have had some lightning rods from Berkley and they were fine until I picked up a BPS graphite Series (IM6) for about the same denaro.  This has given me the grass in greener syndrome, so I started looking at Fenwick.  They have some IM6 Eagle GT's for just a fist full of dollars more.  Is there any gain here, or am I just paying for the cool eagle?  I am also considering a Vengence from Abu-Garcia.  Either way, I am looking $50, which in a BPS, would take me to a Tourney Special (IM7).   I really can't put more than about $50 bucks into a rod right now.

There are a lot of people catching bass with the rods you mentioned. I found that the EagleGT rods MH were softer than other rod companies MH. The BPS Tourney rods are a nice ride for the price, they just won't have the sensitivity of the $100 plus rods. I can't tell you anything about a Abu vengence.

The important thing is to buy the rod you can afford, and still afford to make the fishing trips!

Ole Marty the Party Robinson summed up rod selection best on Fishing University this weekend, best i can remember on what he said was... if you only have $200 to spend on a rod and reel, spend a $150 on the rod and spend $50 on the reel, once you set the hook you can crank them in with just about anything. You gotta feel them before you can reel them.

I know your talking about the $50 dollar range for a rod, but i'd save a little more and get into the $75-$100 range there are some great rods at that price. That would be my advice your close to good rod range, save a little more, and wait.

for about 15 bucks more Walmart has the Vendetta Rods on sale. Decent rod for the price. Even better in my opinion for $64.

I just bought two of the Tourney Specials (7' M & MH) myself.  I'd offer you some impressions, but, since everything's  still iced over here, I don't have much to say.

They look nice... :)   Good luck on your choice!

Cabelas has the fenwick silverhawk on sale from $99 to $49. I bought one but have yet to use it. There is a thread on that rod from the last few days.

Search your local tackleshops. A lot of them markdown rods this time of year ramping up for spring. You may get a $100 rod for the price you mentioned. I've got a bunch of rods that way.

A great option. These rods are much greater than the ones you mentioned.

Academys H2o ethos. Best bang for the buck rod IMO. Quality components IM8 blank and retails for $60. Catch em on sale and you can get em for $40. Has served me very well for over a year.

I picked up a Vengence 7' MH BC at walmart. Put a ABU reel I had with 30lb braid on it to worm fish. Fished it last weekend and landed 4 one to two pounders. Happy with the feel and power of the rod. I think it is lighter in weight than a compareable BPS Graphite series rod.

This is the season of deals if you can wait for one.

Well it's over for now.  I ended up with a Shimano SoJourn with a AbuGarcia BlackMax.  Both fit into my budget, and it feels like a nice combination.  I'll start saving for something a little nicer.   Thanks for the replies.
