pondassasin Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I purchased a brand new Daiwa Sol the other day and dropped in 6.8:1 gears, carbontex drag and some Boca Os's. When I put the reel back together I noticed it felt a little geary. When I spooled it up and made a few casts I could really tell something wasn't quite right. I stripped the factory grease off and replaced with Ardent Reel Butter. I thought I put enough grease on the main gear, pinion and worn bearing gear but I'm wondering if I put too much or not enough. I understand it's probably hard to trouble shoot a problem without seeing the reel in person, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 10, 2013 Super User Posted March 10, 2013 When you changed the gears, did you change both the main gear and the pinion gear? Quote
pondassasin Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Yes, and I had no extra parts at the end either lol Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 10, 2013 Super User Posted March 10, 2013 I figured you probably did. I wouldn't think it's a lubrication problem, it sounds more like something didn't get put back together exactly right. I would take the reel completely apart and start over. Follow the schematics exactly and see if that doesn't fix it. Quote
pondassasin Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Thanks, I'll see if I can't figure it out. Quote
Rangerjoe Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Are the new gears Aluminum? I believe the original main gear 5:8-1 is brass and if the new one is aluminum that might be causing the geary feel. Quote
