KentuckyDave Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I am pretty set on the Lews Tournament or Lews Tournament Pro for the reel but I am needing suggestions on what rod to pair with it...but if you all have any other reels in this price range that you would recommend feel free to give me some options I am not really looking for a technique specific rod but just the best overall rod that I could pair this with in your opinion. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated. I am not near any sporting goods places that I can put the reel on the rod to see what kind of balance it would have. I am wanting to stay under $300 for the total combo Thanks in advance Quote
The Rooster Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 If you're in Lexington, KY as your profile says, what about Sportsman's Warehouse, or Backwaters (local place my bro-in-law goes)? My best suggestion is a medium heavy rod with a fast tip that handles lures from 1/4 oz. up to 1 oz. what rod that is, I don't know. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 Boy, I know I may beat this to death but assuming the budget for the rod is around $150 I would suggest the Phenix recon 714. From weightless flukes to 1/2 oz jigs plus trailer, this rod is versatile. It has a lifetime warranty as well as the rod is quite sensitive for a rod in this price range. Throw in the fact that from a pure cosmetic standpoint the two would be a pretty awesome pairing! The price is a touch over your budget but I picked up mine during a 20% off sale for under $150. If you are not in a hurry I would bet that there may be an Easter sale that some of the online retailers would offer. Quote

BrettD Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Falcon bucoo regular guide or micro would be my first pick. I have a couple of the micros and feel for $130 they are hard to beat. The regular guide rods are only $100. Quote
ColdSVT Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 check out Lews rods!. good value and great rods i just sold my St Croix Mojo crankbait rod for a Lews Laser crankbait rod w/micro guides and couldn't be happier. the Lews is lighter, and much more sensitive. Quote
