Brian6428 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Hey guys, i saw today that bass pro has released their "my guide" fishing app. It is supposed to tell you a lot of things, like good times to fish, record fishing spots/where you caught fish, and mabye even a fishing log. Here is a link to see more https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bass-pro-shops-myguide-hunt/id549863378?ls=1&mt=8 . So what i want to know is if any of you guys have it, and if so, is it worth getting? Thanks in advance! Quote

Thanks in advance! Was not aware they'd released one. I've already plopped down about $20 in similar apps, not sure I feel quite adventurous to do the same for yet another.... Will be curious to see what others think. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 Would be a total waste of time and energy for me. All the information I need is obtained on my pc before I leave to go fishing, I'm there to fish not play with my phone. I do carry my phone most of the time only to receive a call that may be important or maybe a good photo op. Whether it's a phone app or an internet site I find most of them are pretty useless, know your weather and tide before you leave. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 The first thing I do on the day of a trip is look on the computer to see the weather, and road conditions. If I need to make a note for the fish log I just use the voice recorder on the phone. Quote

I use the internet and television for Weather, hard copy topo maps and Google Earth for map study, and I always have a notepad on my boat.Who needs to pay for that app. When you can do your homework at HOME!! I use a 50 cent note pad for my notes. I also mark alot of stuff on my lowrance when im out. I keep a lake map in kitchen where i do alot of map study and will mark and make notes for the next time.. i leave my phone in my truck half the time...and when it is with me, Like Snook said, its there only to receive calls...and then its in a safe place out of the way of harm Quote
Jell0b0y Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I am going to start using one i purchased for 99 cents. Basically i am just using it to get waypoints so i can mark on my hard maps but will only use it if i get on a good spot and not for every fish i catch. i don't have an unit that keeps track of waypoints so i use my phone until I can get a depth finder that does have that feature then the phone will be used as a phone agian and in the bag. But back to this one unless it has a fishfinder on it then thier are much cheaper options than this one and i rather spend that money on a lure or something else. Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I'm pretty much over the BPS apps, and I've yet to have tried one. BPS has had "Coming Soon For Android!!" posted for all of their apps for well over a year now Not holding my breath in anticipation or buying an iPhone/iPad. Quote
Brian6428 Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Thanks for the replies, I don't think I will get it after reading those. Upon further thinking, it does seem like one of those lures we buy that looks good in the store but we never even use on the water. Thanks again, $5 saved is $5 dollars earned! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 9, 2013 Super User Posted March 9, 2013 I'm not against an app, I may look at one while sitting in my car during a rain delay, but that's just really passing time. I've gathered my information, selected the wardrobe of the day and the rods and reels that I'll be using, made a decision on my destination, most of it based on weather and tide, I prefer to do this in the comfort of my home. It being 2:10 am right now, I'm just starting to make decisions, I generally leave about 4 am. I focus somewhat to where " they caught them yesterday", but my gut feelings prevail more, where I fish seldom are 2 days in a row identical. Quote
jkroosz Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 On the water is not the place to be distracted by gadgets....unless its a fishfinder!! Quote
Dinger2410 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I like the app helps out if I'm trying a new lake out and don't have my computer there. Even though it is 4.99 its not a bad app, I use it for hunting as well Quote
