coak Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I just picked one of these up at a Cabelas here in Columbus that just opened. Got the 6'6" M/F for wade fishing in a local river. The rod feels great with the Quantum PT reel I mounted in store, so I figured I would take a chance. I was keen to take a look at the Elite Tech Smallmouth rods but felt that they're were out of my price range. These are on sale currently for $59.......a STEAL for that price!!!!! Fuji ESC reel seat, Alconite guides and a 30 ton blank.......for less than $100 are you kidding me! I will be sure to post some sort of review after I actually get to the river once it warms up. Super User BASSclary Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 Thanks for the heads up! There goes my taxes.... LOL Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 I'm a big fan of their HMG line and picked up an Eagle GT spinning rod the other day Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 I just ordered the 7' M/F, but my question is, in the picture it shows a Fuji ACS reel seat vs the listed ECS, can anyone confirm which it comes with? I already ordered and dont care which is on, but I do prefer an ACS. Either way, for $78 (18$ for shipping! C'mon man) I'm not complaining. Quote
coak Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Bassclary---it is an ACS seat. I guess I should've caught that in my earlier post.......sorry for any confusion Thanks for the heads up! There goes my taxes.... LOL Yeah I had to basically tell my wife that I'm done with buying rods/reels until at least Black Friday Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 coak, I'm one of the few guys on this board who uses Fenwck. IMO alot of rod for the money. I currently have 4 HMG's and the Eagle GT I just bought. You won't be disappointed Quote

It lists it as ECS on Cabelas too, so I was just curious. And i'm having to put away money to go to senior week on top of bills, so money is tight for me, probably no more rods in the future, but I had to get this at the price. Quote
Greenstealth Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I got one last year for $50. Awesome rod for the money. Just feels great Quote
nocluefisher Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I just grabbed a 7' mh at cabelas for $49. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 9, 2013 Super User Posted March 9, 2013 coak, I'm one of the few guys on this board who uses Fenwck. IMO alot of rod for the money. I currently have 4 HMG's and the Eagle GT I just bought. You won't be disappointed I have 2 of the Elite Tech Smallmouth casting rods and a Techna AV, plus an older 9' rod for fishing live nightwalkers. Have another Techna AV casting rod and an Elite Tech spinning rod on the way. The 9' rod is probably 30-35 years old. I'd have to say that Fenwicks are usually underrated by most people. Especially by those that have never used one! 1 Quote

I'm heading out for the first time this season and will take this rod with tomorrow. I don't know about all Fenwick models, but this one feels like it definitely has a strong, solid backbone for being a medium power. I usually never go above M power as I fish a lot of open water and mostly streams/creeks/rivers chasing 'Footballs' instead of LMB. Thanks for the post and the encouragement, I usually fish Shimano rods for the warranty, but there was no way that I was passing on Alconite guides for less than $70 Quote
coak Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Yeah I just took the rod out and it definitely does load up on the cast like more of a MH.......at least for me. Do they generally fish heavier than advertised? Quote
craww Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 It's subjective of course, but in my mind a fenwick MH rating is about spot on. I've owned 4 fenwicks, nice tough sticks that fish well. I have an older 6'6" MH HMG that's like a sword in my hand. I can put a 3/8 -5/8 bait anywhere I wish. I've got nicer, lighter rods, but that old HMG is just suits me. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted March 14, 2013 Super User Posted March 14, 2013 Just got my 7' M/F in the mail today and i'm impressed. Very well balanced, and the TAC cork handle is just plain comfortable and I really like the feel of it, action seemed to be standard fast but i'd put the power of the rod up just a smidge from a medium, definately a little more stiffer and has a ton of backbone to it. Balance with a Fuego in it was right at the small foregrip. It felt really light and crisp when tossing around with it in the yard. I think it will be a very nice secondary plastics rod for me for heavier styles, ala senkos, pegged rage craws, and maybe some bigger magnum flukes should the need arise. It compliments my Powell 682C very well, and if it fishes as good as I think it does, it will definitely being fighting for some time on the water. Quote
