Zoff Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 As some of you may or may not know, I keep an aquarium with LMB and BG. Their diet consists of guppies, dried brine shrimp, meal worms, red worms, and the like. They have started to get large so I began to start trapping yellow-fin minnows (not sure what they are called) from my minnow pond. It is usually overrun anyway. Always have to weed out the big old creek chubs that I save for catfish and stripers. Today, I caught a little 2 inch bugger that I do not know what it is. I know it is a panfish but I am not good at identification of fry. I cannot tell a BG from a crappie from a rockbass. So... can anybody tell me what it is? It does not look like the BG when it was this size. Here's a link to the best vid I can make of it... http://s145.beta.photobucket.com/user/zoff12/media/Fish_zps4bbe4204.mp4.html Forgive the bubbles on the glass. The tank gets over oxygenated when i clean it. and I just did. Any idea of what it is? Quote
Rangerphil Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I have no idea but I would love to see some pics of the tank that is awesome! Quote
CMG Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 The shape looks right for a green sunfish, but all the pictures of juvi greens that I can find show them being lighter colored. Older ones are usually dark and resemble what you have. Quote
moguy1973 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Yeah, I would have to say it's a green sunfish. Quote
Zoff Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 Cool...Thanks Here some more pics of the fish and some of his new friends (if they don't eat him) 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 8, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 8, 2013 Looks like a green sunfish with that big mouth and outlined pectoral fins. They're good aquarium fish but make sure you keep the entire top of the tank covered or it will jump out, even through holes you'd never think they could jump out. I use them for bait for flatheads and keep a few dozen of them in a 200 gallon tank and if I leave any kind of space for them to jump out at least a dozen of them will get it done every time. Quote
wademaster1 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 The panfish in the next to last pic you posted....is this the fish you're inquiring about? That's a bluegill.....the smaller guy in the first couple pics looks to be a green sunfish.. Quote
Zoff Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 I know the big bluegill. Raised him from a pup. lol The other was in question and Is (or was) a green Sunfish. They ate him yesterday. lol 1 Quote
