tjwhite1 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Hey guys me and a friend are taking our spring break next week and going to spend the whole week at Pickwick. I know the lake has been on fire and probably will continue to be that week but what I was really wondering about was below the dam. I know last fall my dad and I caught a lot of nice smallies drifting bait down there and I was wondering if this same type of deal works in the Spring? Also wondering if the umbrella rig works down there? My friend that will be with me all week has never caught a real big smallmouth and I figure we might can catch one down there if it is right. Any help is much appreciated and I will try to post some reports next week if we get down there. Thanks! Quote
lazeebum Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Live bait is almost always a good way to catch a big brown fish. The ones I have caught this year have been on 3 inch curl tail grubs. Find a stump row with a drop off and have fun. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 7, 2013 Super User Posted March 7, 2013 As long as the water below the dam is flowing at LEAST 30,000, you can drift minnows. Most I have drifted on was 120,000 but it was hard to get to the bottom. TN-rig will work below the dam as well, but nothing will outfish minnows! Jeff 1 Quote
tjwhite1 Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Well so far we have stayed on the lake and it has proven to be pretty good, didnt get to fish today due to a boat issue but Friday I caught my biggest ever at Pickwick being almost 10lbs. and Saturday had one almost 8. Have not been catching the huge strings or lots of fish so we still got something to put together Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 10, 2013 Super User Posted March 10, 2013 Are you saying a 10 lb "fish" or a bass? Quote
