Daiwa Problem

It seems as though the cast control on my Daiwa 100tsh has gone out and so now it keeps birds-nesting. Does anyone know how to fix this? I really like this reel and would appreciate any input on how to fix this.

You sure its not the magnetic brakes? They can shatter if abused, I know, I did it. Birdsnests are usually caused by forcing the reel. In other words you have it set wrong or the bearings are sludgy and you wail on it to get it to cast then the spool is spinning faster than the line can get out of the way.

 

Tear it apart and clean it. Find anything broken and replace it.

Cast control usually refers to the spool tension knob. You probably need a new shim. You can call Daiwa and order the parts. The parts diagrams are on their site, or came with the reel.

yes i am sure. When i am trying to adjust it the knob does absolutley nothing

Not the Cast Control Cap, it's the mag adjustment dial..

because the reel has a 2 piece spool shaft I don't think the problem is the shim under the CCCap.

 

IMO I think the mags dial for the spool braking has lost it's setting. The mags can and do jump teeth on these reels and they lose the factory mag zero setting.

The only way to get the settings back  is to send the reel into Daiwa and tell them the mags dial is no longer adjusting the braking on the reel. Some service shops can zero adjust the mags but they really have to know their stuff......

When a Mag - Z/V brake magnet slips, the magnets are naturally attracted to a point where polarity is "in phase" which is the maximum braking force.  Zero brake setting is out of phase with the magnets.  In other words, they pretty much never slip to zero, but they do slip to ten.  Luckily, there are notches in the magnet drums, and you can easily check this.  Take the side plate off and set the brakes to "10" and the notches should line up.
