nbowen419 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I started with my dad when I was little going to different ponds around where we lived. Great memories but I just started lake fishing about 2 years ago. Man what a difference. Thats why I joined a bass club to learn and fish with different people. We have 21 members and I've still never fished with all of them.. Quote
collards Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I started as a child, but drifted away. About 7 or 8 years ago one of my sons wanted to go. We did and I remembered how much fun it was. Quote
Bamacapsfan Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I started when I was 12, so now it's been 38 years off & on. My folks weren't really into fishing, so I learned how through the Boy Scouts and friends. My grandfather liked to fish so when he retired I would hang out with him fishing for bluegills and crappies. Most of my adult life I spent in Wyoming & Montana fishing for trout. Now I'm in Alabama taking up bass fishing and am learning to baitcast. I taught my son at about 10, he is now 23 and has a little more experience on bass than me. I love getting outdoors spending time with my kids just chillin. Quote
Jason Short Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I started when on my 4th birthday. My dad got me a snoopy rod and reel for my birthday and I spent all afternoon practicing my casting in the yard. That evening we went to the neighbors pond and fished for some bluegill with worms and bobbers. Now I'm 16 and am more hooked than when I started. I've gone from worms and bobbers to $300 setups and tournaments...this sport is too expensive, the bait monkey gets me every time Quote
Squirmin Wormin Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I was 5yrs old when i hit the water Quote
ZRT-42 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Around 12 or 13 years old. Was not any good at then but loved going with my dad. Now we fish whenever we get a chance and actually catch bass lol. Quote
massrob Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I caught a sunfish when I was five and never fished again til 2 months ago. I'm so happy to have found bass fishing I'm completely hooked and have found something to do for the rest of my life. ThanK god my roommate said you wanna go fishing? Quote
FrankW Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I started fishing in 1939 when I was four years old. My grand parents use to spend all summer camped out at Bass Lake in central California. Our camp had a log dock that was made with 6" logs tied together and fasten to shore. I had a piece of line with a size 12, or maybe a little bigger, golden hook. I use salmon eggs for bait and a little weight. I would drop the salmon egg down between the cracks in the dock and catch tiny perch. They must have been about 2 1/2" long or so. My Grandma would fry up my catch to crispy critters and I would eat them like potato chips, guts and all. What a great time I had during those summers. Been fishing every since. Frank Quote
NJBasstard Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I don't know, 2 y/o. The creek was right in our back yard so I imagine I was out whenever I could be used as an excuse. I remember catching sunfish, crappie & little bass. Eventually the creek flooded the house & we moved. From age 7 on I never had somebody around to do those things but have always lived within a mile from the river so around age 12 I started cat fishing by myself & with a few friends. I didn't really get into bassfishing until I was 17 or 18 and it's been a big learning curve over the past 5-6 years but I'm hooked. (pun intended) Quote
Hubtech Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Growing up I fished all the time with my Dad and Grandad. Then life happened, I moved off between lil of this and that and starting a business the free time to fish was well, gone. Sadly last year my grandad passed, and I was given the opportunity to buy his boat, so I did. That being said, I'm back into fishing . Now I have no idea what i'm doing, and i'm not catching any fish, but getting the boat back into tip top shape was fun, and it's running great now. I'm just trying to figure out patterns, structure, etc etc. But it's great. and I love fishing out of his lil TX17. Quote
DILLY07 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I'ved fished since I was 6. I live right off the Mississippi River. My dad was not a fisherman. My grandad took me out bluegill and crappie fishin. Until, I was 7 or 8. I watched Bassmasters on tv and saw some pro using a spinner bait. My grandad surprised me with a chartreuse spinnerbait and got 4 pounder on the spinner bait. After since, I've been fishing rest of my life. Recently got into tournament fishing this year. Just learning. I got my brother into fishing 2 years ago, hes been hooked since. Quote
ABW Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Started fishing for panfish around 5-6 years old. When I was 7 I started targeting bass using beetle spins. My dad doesn't fish, and back then I was so young so I just watched a whole lot of fishing shows. Quote
starweldpro16 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 My first trip was with my uncle (Dad didn't fish),at age 7,(1969) By the time I was 10, I was fishing on my own for trout as we lived about 3/4 mile from a trout stream. Cherished memories for sure. At 13 we bought a place with it's own pond. I stocked it with bass, catfish and perch I caught from a generous neighbor's pond. From then on the bass reigned supreme in my mind as king of the fishes. I lost about a 4 lb smallie last Monday morning, and can't wait to get back on them this Sat. 42 years after that old farm pond and they still get me fired up. Quote
Stumphunter Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Since i was knee high to a grasshopper lol. Ever since i can remember i have loved fishing and i could never get enough off it. Some of my fondest memories are fishing related. You could say fishing is my happy place. Quote
