Shore Fishing Central Mass/rhode Island

I'm looking for some good spots to get to this spring in the central mass/rhode island area. I fish lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams. I unfortunately don't have a boat so shore access is a must. Thanks for the help

Do you fish Saltwater too?

 

I only know about saltwater fishing from shore in MA...

From what I saw yesterday on a scouting trip for open water, most of the ponds are still iced over...but many haven't started to refill after drawdown...this is a great time to learn about the areas you like to fish. Go and take a walk around the edges and find out what you've been fishing. You might find that bit of open water you are looking for. Singletary, Manchaug, Maspenock, Nipmuck and Slatersville all come to mind.....good luck....

Thanks guys these are all a big help. I live in the Blackstone area, go to school in Dartmouth (southcoast). Anyone with info on these areas such as a decent spot to park/way to access an area of a lake is also a big help. Nipmuc is heavily populated so I think it'd be tough to find a spot. I've been to Whitehall and had good luck there, but I was in a canoe. I'm going to check out some maps and try to find a way but anyone with experience would be great

For Nipmuc you can park on rte 16 on the lake side between the road that goes to Myriad and Alicante.  The water gets deeper and better fishing towards Alicante.

 

Up the road in Douglas is Wallum lake which can be very good in the spring.  There are some good spots for shore fishing just past the beach area, those spots can be very productive in the spring.

It's still mostly frozen over, but the best shore fishing I know of close by is Whitins Pond, off Main St in Northbridge.  Go north on Rt 146, get off at the Main St exit, go by the Walmart on the left and it's about a 1/2 mile down.  It's on both sides of the road and it's all fishable right off the road.  If you specific advice, there is a culvert that goes underneath the road - it's at (I think) the third telephone pole on the right as you're coming to water on the right.  That part has some moving water so it's probably the first to melt.  You'll understand when you get there, I can't be more specific than that.  I used to fish from shore there all the time before I got a canoe a few years ago.  Trust me, there are some big fish in there.  There's usually a pretty good amount of shore anglers, but there is TONS of room, you'll never get crowded there.

While South Watuppa is not one of my favorite ponds, it does have a lot of fishable water from the northern shore. There is a walking/bike path that goes along that shore, and there are plenty of places to fish from. It has plenty of rocky bottom and you can easily cast to six to nine feet of water.

I've done best early in the year on Watuppa, and have caught a lot of fish from my boat casting to the rip rap. There are times you can catch plenty of fish, both smallmouth and largemouth. But there are times I cannot buy a bite. Still, in terms of access it's one of the better ponds in this area, and if the fish are biting, you'll have more than a mile of shore from which to fish.
