thehooligan Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I don't have a Recon, but want to try one. My Curado 51E is on a Fenwick Smallmouth 6'10" MF. It got used every time I was out last year (after they arrived). Definitely a favorite. How to do you like the reel seat on the fenwick. I have the spinning smallmouth rod but havent held a baitcasting model yet. Does it have the rear locking reel seat ? Edit: i just ordered the 6'9 x-fast medium smallmouth rod for my curado 51e. Its 3/8-5/8, i think it will be perfect for spinnerbaits, small frogs, senkos and jigs. I have my chronarch 51e on a 6'3 cumara, might sell that rod because it is pretty short. Im looking at the recon 2's, the 682 or 683. Also looking at the 6'10 *** ***.... Decisions decisions....lol Quote

Silas Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 QuakeNShake, You are SO right about the Smoke....a real "sleeper" of a rod. I picked mine up for about $75 and it is flat out perfect.......very sensitive and super feather light. 1 Quote

Didn't noticed the reel seat, so I guess that must mean it works for me. I have the same rod (6'9" MXF), but haven't taken it out of the plastic yet. Didn't get to fish much last year so I stuck with multipurpose rods...except for my dedicated cranking rod. Good luck with your decision for a new rod. Too many good choices out there. Unfortunately many are out of my price range. 1 Quote

Thanks bud, yea it was a toss up between the 6'9 medium x-fast and 6'9 medium heavy. I figured i really dont throw anything heavier then 1/2oz so hopefully i made the right decision... But at $104 on amazon you cant really go wrong. Plus the curado looks so good on that rod. I got one day shipping so im looking forward to getting it out for a bit today, hopefully it comes in one piece, its coming directly from amazon, not reeds. I fell in love with the 6'10 crucial 3/8-1/2oz spinnerbait rod, im really hoping this feels just like that... Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 Added a Lews TP 7.1, dang eBay...how could I pass for $135 shipped? eBay and the flea market have been good to me lately almost to good lol. I got both my STXs for 50 less then retail for 3rd gens and I got the villain from the flea market for 95. STX and villain normally that combo would have cost me what $380 I got it for $237(142 reel 95 rod) Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 9, 2013 Super User Posted March 9, 2013 Add a Villain 7'1"MHF to my list paired with a STX Post a review on the Villain once you have used it for a bit. I got a very good deal on the Villain 7'6" MH. Rod's large diameter initially turned me off. Haven't been able to fish it since it was purchased at the end of last season. Did make a few casts at a local river. Wasn't impressed at all. May have been because the line on the new-to-me reel appeared to be quite old. Was casting with a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait, and got the impression heavier would be better. I do like the looks of the ML Villain spinning rod I bought. Sharp looking rod IMO. I will say that it won't cast a lure beneath is rating worth a darn. 1 Quote

Either putting a Curado or Citica on it. Yet to do decide. Quote
JellyMan Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Just bought a new setup today for jigs and soft plastics. Went with a Revo S on a Mojo Bass 7" MH with some P-Line Floroclear. I think I may pick up another exact setup specifically for fishing heavy cover with creatures and jigs with braid. I'm in the midst of a gear change. I'm loving the compact design and lightness of the Revo! We will see what comes of the future. Johnny Morris Signature Series with Team All Star 6'0 rod retiring to top water and my Rick Clunn reel with 6'0 Carbomax retiring to cranking. Next on the list is an Orra SX spinning reel with Veritas 6'6 M for finesse, pond, and shore fishing. In Vermont right now... MELT ICE!!!!! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 10, 2013 Super User Posted March 10, 2013 I've bought nothing recently. A sale starting today with a rod (including a free reel) that I've been eyeballing for quite some time. Not being all that crazy for the reel in the first place, I would replace it in time with something else, I'm turned off to the rod. Split grip and a lack of a foregrip has me unexcited, however I did want another 8' rod. I'm taking a pass on buying something that I don't really need just because there is an attractive offer.
