Super User flyfisher Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 So I posted on here about a month ago about starting p90x again and well I got bored, had to travel a bunch for work and decided to bag it. I ordered the P90x2 and so far so good. It is completely different than the original and my first impression was this is all gimmick, that was until the next morning and I was sore as crap. It is three phases like the first but the mindset is different. First phase is core work, oh and the phases are not a preset amount of time either, you go until you feel you have mastered the techniques, they recommend 3-6 weeks. The second phase is strength training and the third is performance training. Definitely looking forward to keep on with the program as the speedo wearing shore season is coming up fast Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Good Luck - Perhaps you could refrain from posting up any speedo shots - Ain't nobody got time for that ~ A-Jay 6 Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Good luck. You wanna be unable to walk do the one after Insanity....it's called asylum it's just crazy Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 5, 2013 I have a done a few of the insanity and asylum workouts and they are just not my cup of tea. To much like cardio classes you used to see on the infomercials 10 years ago:) I can't wait to be able to get back on my road bike again once the weather warms up a little bit. Good luck. You wanna be unable to walk do the one after Insanity....it's called asylum it's just crazy Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 They are a lot of cardio I mixed them with a weight lifting regiment also so I didn't turn into a twig. What it really helped on was my run(cardio) I did some half martathons and the army 10miler when this time last year I could barely run a mile Quote

I have never been much of a runner other than in playing sports. The only time i run now is if something is chasing me that is able to eat me or i cannot beat it up Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 I hate running with a passion but can't say no to some one who out ranks you well you could.....I'd rather not lol Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Totally understandable Quote
preach4bass Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I've done P90X and am currently doing Insanity (to break up the monotony). They're both good programs, as I'm sure P90X2 and Asylum are. But, the key isn't the super-fit guy on TV who's telling you what to do. The key is the guy with love-handles standing in your livingroom. Stick with it! 2 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 The stick with it is the problem, I know I need to do something being middle aged and out of shape is not a good thing. Hard part is making the time to keep doing it, or not just giving up..... Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 5, 2013 I have done the P90X before and the biggest thing that helps performance was sticking to the meal plan. I am not a nutrition nazi like they are but i am pretty good about what i eat even before i started working out again. On a side note, if anyone is looking for a way to add veggies to your diet i found out today that adding two handfuls of spinach to my morning smoothie (Greek yogurt, banana, skim milk, frozen strawberries & protein powder) does nothing to the taste but it does turn the entire thing green and gives you get some more vegetables in your diet Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Like the baby spinach leaves? Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Like the baby spinach leaves?Yes sir. I love spinach so i figured rather than eat salads all the time i would incorporate it in a different meal and format.I will say it is much easier and blends more easily if you get all the fruit and yogurt blended before you drop in the spinach. Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Insanity. Delusional. P90x.25. Who the hell comes up with these names? Crossfit works for me. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 6, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 6, 2013 Insanity. Delusional. P90x.25. Who the hell comes up with these names? Crossfit works for me. Marketing geniuses I like the idea of crossfit but i am more of a loner when it comes to just about anything so the whole group thing isn't as appealing. I do know a couple of chicks i work with who do it and they are jacked...showed me pictures of them flipping over tractor tires and crap ala Rocky Balboa training Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 6, 2013 Super User Posted March 6, 2013 I don't do the classes either, I have a private trainer. Works well. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 6, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 6, 2013 Best of both worlds for sure. Quote
preach4bass Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Cro$$fit is a little less budget friendly than some of the other programs. From where I live, the nearest gym that teaches their classes is 45 minutes away, and with a FD discount it's still $85 a month. I'd love to do it, but can't justify the time or cost. I bought P90X off of ebay a few years ago for $50, and a couple in the church gave me Insanity a while back, when they found that they couldn't do it. I can do both programs in my livingroom, so the time it saves is very valuable. Any of these things will work, if we'll put in the work. But, I have to admit, I have a little *** (and a lot of respect) for the folks who are able to do Crossfit! Quote
Fish Chris Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 All of these programs can work. But it all depends on the person. The question isn't > Does this, or that program work.... But rather, "Can you make, this, or that program work" ? I'm not sure what you normal people do to stay on track. Health and fitness (diet and exercise) are easy for me to stay focused on. In fact, with my OCD, it's hard for me to focus on much else. Personally speaking, I hate cardio.... But its not so bad if I'm outdoors, stomping around in the hills, with my camera Good cardio + photography at the same time Not to mention, I'm really not interested in being "thin, with super endurance". I'm more into burst strength and muscle bulk (why fight genetics ?) I do some cardio just because I know its good for me + I believe it compliments weight lifting. As the weather gets better + daylight savings time this Sunday, I'll be doing more and more hill climbing / hiking, which is good, as I plan to cut about 10-12 lbs of fat, in the next 8 or 10 weeks... to bring me from 222@13%BF (I'm 6ft) to my June goal of 210@10% Will post some new progress photos... Peace, Fish Quote
Busy Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I just got the convict conditioning bodyweight training book and it sounds similar. I'm not a big fan of pumping iron. Good luck with the program! Quote
preach4bass Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Busy, have you started the "convict conditioning" yet? If so, how do you like it? Quote
