Shane Procell Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I got a call today from a reporter in the SW corner of the state. She asked me my thoughts on the current bag limits set forth by the FWC. I was not aware that there was any discussion on adjusting the current bag limit of 4 bass up to 14 inches and one over 14 inches. I'am mostly a catch and release guy, but take a few every once in awhile for a fish fry. What are your thoughts on adjusting the bag limits? Here is the story as it ran on Fox 4 News in Ft. Myers today. Quote
fstr385 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Don't really care... throw them back anyways. . Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 I'm personally unaffected as I c&r, but I would say just leave it where it is. There is just too much water and too few FWC officers to really do anything about it anyway. 1 Quote
gar-tracker Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I dont know anyone who keeps bass on a regular basis, once in a great while ill keep a few small schooling fish to eat but does anyone here wish they would change the limit so you can fill the freezer? I know theres still some of the older generation people that do but they mostly Speck fish. I say Keep it the way it is. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 I am with Snook, on this one. Leave the way it is. There are too few FWC on patrol for the amount of water we have. Most of us practice C&R however many do not and even with current limits people are walking away with many fish. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 The opinions on this site are from fishermen that catch fish for sport and hobby, that isn't the way it is for the meat hunters. Sadly any new or existing regulation IMO will not be heeded, any enforcement is difficult at best. Too many roadside bait fishermen too monitor. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 5, 2013 Super User Posted March 5, 2013 Would those regs affect tournament fishing? Quote
jhoffman Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Would those regs affect tournament fishing? Okechobee would have 200lb bags next year. You would need a three day total of 600lbs to win it Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Would those regs affect tournament fishing? my question would be how the current regs affect tournament fishing, or are they just ignored? if you can only keep 1 fish over 14 inches and the other 4 have to be below 14, that would make for some very small bags in some big fish lakes. obviously tournament fishing isnt abiding by that based on the info given here. but then again im not from florida, dont fish tourneys, and am not versed in their laws so my assumption here could be wrong.... BrettD Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Tournements get permits down here which allows you to keep any fish over 12" for catch and release with a limit of five. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Why do they want to change it in the 1st place? If it aint broke don't fix it. Quote
evrgladesbasser Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I wouldn't have a problem with raising the limit of under 14" but I would like to see anything over 14" put back. We have way to many tiny fish down here IMO. They are having an open house at Bass Pro concerning this exact subject, I will see if I can find the info to share. Quote
evrgladesbasser Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Here is the email I received concerning... Hello: As FWC was developing our Black Bass Management Plan (available on the web here) we recognized we wanted to review our bass regulations statewide. We want to include public opinion and suggestions in this review (additional information is available here). One way we are gathering public input for this review is through a series of open house events. Here in the south region, we are hosting two of these events. There are no presentations planned – just stop by and tell us what you think. I have attached flyers promoting each of these open house events, March 11 at C. Scott Driver park in Okeechobee, and March 12 at Bass Pro Shops in Dania Beach. I would welcome both your participation and your assistance in helping spread the word. Thank you, Barron Barron Moody Regional Fisheries Administrator FWC, Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management 8535 Northlake Blvd. West Palm Beach, FL 33412 (561) 625-5122 Quote
gar-tracker Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Okechobee would have 200lb bags next year. You would need a three day total of 600lbs to win it Years ago the Okeechobee Tournys used to have a 10 fish a man limit, it was insane. Ill try and make that March 11th. Quote
